Speaking of exhaust notes, I was walking down Whitaker Mill two nights ago and got passed by a car with a super high note similar to a high revving twin-cam four cylinder. I didn't even turn around to see what was approaching. Part of me thought it would be a Civic hatch with a watermelon gun exhaust, but no.

It was a red F 430 with aftermarket wheels (HRE's?) and Virginia tags. He must have been rolling along in 1st winding it up although it was only going about 30 when it passed.

Anyone else happen to see it this week?

I would change the gears, not a big deal for you. I would leave the brakes alone, just upgrade the front pads to some Hawk Blues. Although I really like the Ferodo DS2500's. Then bring it out.

If you enjoy it, then think about the roll bar. Personally, I wish I had gone with a cage and saved some money. Anyone want to buy a 6pt roll bar?

4.10s on the front straight would suck for sure. I agree with Jim in leaving the brakes alone. The stock brakes are way more capable than you think. Go out and give HPDE a try before you spend lots of money on the car. Besides seat time is the best money you can spend on track.

You know about that? I guess you were at the starting line 2 years ago when I blew it off the tail pipe!

Walter my wife heard it when you blew it off the tailpipe. She was still at home in Raleigh

You should do a couple of DEs with it and see what you think. I assume that car is still really setup for drag racing? Skip C5 brakes and all that until you've done a few events and decided whether you want to take it serious. Like Jim said, get some entry level race pads. That way they won't be quite so hard on rotors. Bring extra front rotors just incase.

4.10 gears are a bit steep but you have a 6sp so you can work around that. I'm running stock 3.42. Some guys are running 3.73 and 3.90. Just means you'll be running 4th and 5th gear instead of 3rd and 4th gear. Not that big a deal just to try it out.

I've taken off all the drag racing stuff and am back in autocross set up except for the front end alignment. I ran out of time before Laurinburg. I guess my Hawk HP pads wouldn't be good for RR? I already have the C5 calipers. I already spend too much money on cars! New tires, shipped, mounted and balanced are nearly $1,100.00. I know I need to start with street tires or I will kill myself.
The roll cage suggestion is a good idea.

Actually, I did see a F430 this morning, but it was in Apex, didn't see the plates, but it was red and converitible. I also saw a Model T and vintage motorcycle with side car this morning on the road.

You're talking about doing the Roebling event with THSCC in June?
Hawk HP+ would be ok for your first event at Roebling. It is easy on brakes with only 1 hard braking zone. Then plenty of time to cool them down. Just make sure you have about .250 left on the pad before you go. That will help with heat soak and subsequent heat soak into the caliper and fluid.

I just went down there 2 weeks ago. With the new pavement the track is nicer on tires and the grip feels better. It's a good track to start learning on.

You want a vintage motorcycle with a sidecar? I got one right here

Take the side car off and you have a cool BMW cafe racer. My brother feels 6 motorcycles is a bit much right now (4 BMW, 1 Honda, 1 Enfield)

Yes, that is my crazy brother's :-) Planning on selling the F650 after the THSCC April event. Know of anyone interested in a BMW F650 ST?
