I've got a question about novice school. I'm not technically a novice (I trophied in my integra about 5 years ago and haven't run novice class since). However, my wife is interested in attending the school. I've never attended a novice school myself, is it possible for us to both attend, even though I don't actually meet the requirements of a true "novice"? I don't plan on trying to run novice class or anything at the event the next day, I just don't want her to have to go by herself, not to mention, I could still use some teaching, as I've never had any formal instruction.

Dan, I don't see this as being a problem - depending on our student/ instructor ratio, we may have you working with at least one other person as well. Can I add you to the list?

Brice, I don't have a problem with you registering so long as we don't displace other true novices in the process. I might suggest we wait a week, just to see what the status looks like on the prereg page. "Worst case" you could help out in the bus, working start, etc... while your wife runs, and I'm sure if it came to that we could extend some of the instructor "compensation" your way. Sign your wife up now, plan to come out, and assuming we have room, run yourself. PM me with questions/comments please.

Brice I can't speak for the event chairs or officers, but IMHO philosophically I personally don't see any problem with an experienced low event count person taking a novice school, as long as it doesn't close a 0 seat time novice out. I see National Champion's taking the Evolution school phase 1 several times. Sometimes it helps to go back and revisit the basics, plus the instructors will instruct to your level.

yeah, I can just come out and help instead I suppose (don't know why I didnt' offer that in the first place), I'm not exactly "instructor material" (although at the last autocross of the year, I DID beat the "rookie of the year", but thats beside the point), but I'll do what I can to help, whether its starting, shagging cones, or whatever else. If theres room for me to run, then I'll pay my entry fee and take any instruction that I can absorb, but it can be a "day of the event" decision, and if theres no room, I'll jsut help out.

Brice,
I kind of agree with what Chuck said. My wife has been doing it about a year and a half now. If the school doesn't fill up with complete noobs, she will be signing up for the school too.

Let's keep this on topic guys - If it doesn't pertain to Novice Instructors or valid Novice questions - I'm deleting the post.

Thanks Brice, we'll see you there.
