Just a reminder that the final 2003 Night Series event is scheduled for Tuesday night. Looks like the weather will cooperate considering it is already December.

If you liked November's course, you will love December's!

Great. If it is exactly the same, maybe I'll figure out how to drive it right.

I'm not on the Listserv yet, so I haven't recieved any information about the night series... but I was wondering if someone could post the time and details for the event. I just put new bushings and a swaybar on the MR2, and I've been hoping for a chance to put them to use around the cones.

Much thanks!

Hmm... no answer. I guess I'll just show up around 6 and hope that there's room for me to run.

Please check your email. By the way, you have a better chance to run if you show up at 4:30 to help setting up the event.

Jim, I thought the course was excellent. I really enjoyed the many varied elements. Now, if only I could pre-run the course with a huge sanding truck to drop the grip...

Anders, the way my Mustang kept getting into the ABS no matter how conservative I was, I think the course was sanded. Ditto for corner exit traction. :D

At least you have ABS! But I think a few too many people were relying on their ABS at that one gate

Jim,

One gate? I seemed to "randomly" get ABS at most of the "U turn" corners no matter how much I tried to avoid getting into the ABS. Obviously a driver education problem in my case!!! Much as I enjoy my Mustang I think its time to go back to my real autocross car. :D

I didn't get to watch any of your runs Jim but were you using extreme late apex lines like I had to use to get through most of the "U turns"? Since it appeared that most people were using a tighter entry, I wonder if I was literally in loose stuff/marbles pushed off to the side of the "popular" line?

Ahh, but I don't. That was 12 pounds that I really didn't need to have sitting behind my headlight. A bunch of AN fittings and one of the most beautiful tool purchases I have ever made (A military spec flaring tool that will handle stainless steel and titanium) later my ABS was history, replaced with an adjustable rear brake bias lever.

You mean the one near station five? Yeah, those cones got punted on a ridiculously regular basis: I don't think any of the other stations ran out of cones... FOUR TIMES. ;)

Who was the course worker that threw up their hands and collasped to the ground? That was classic

It was great seeing the rally car out there - I liked the way you handled the tight turn right before the slalom. I was sitting on the start line watching, though, so I didn't get a great view of it.

I thought the course was a lot of fun once I figured out how to drive it. Felt like just packing up and hanging out after the first 3 runs, but I'm glad I went back for more. Never did get everything right, though - and I always ran out of patience right before the finish. It's always a challenge when Jim designs the course.

I think Ken Shiring and I are going to volunteer for January - unless somebody else already has - and I can almost guarantee that there won't be any turnarounds...

I watched that "action" from station two. I still don't understand the problem. All it took to easily get through was a late apex and some braking so that you could easily be on the power even before clearing the cones that kept getting hit. This generally wasn't one of my ABS corners. It didn't even need as late an apex as many of the other turns did.

The problem was that folks were heading straight from one thing to the next, and not defining the course for themselves. I did it the first couple of times myself. You just have to think ahead...

The grip there is notoriusly bad any ways. I was running very tight lines around those u-turns. It bit me every time on the second turn because the car was stumbling in second gear coming up that hill. But going to first was not an option.

I will agree with Kevin that is was challenging. There were three places on was nearing the limiter and two of those places I had whoa down pretty hard. That was not intentional, especially coming from someone that has burned through 3 right front tires in the past 2 months
