haven't done a class by class compare, but STS got bumped as well. 06 was .797 and according to the new list, STS now gets paxed at .805 for 07, a bump of +.008.... that sucks...

Looks like we all have to drive harder now!

Oh, wah. GS bump = 0.009 What we are really seeing is that AMod got easier (seriously).

Let's consider the cars that run on DOT tires, that is pretty representative of THSCC events.

The median and average index increase is 0.007 for all DOT rubber classes. We're really more interested in percent change though, so for that we see a median and average of 0.842% (all DOT classes got harder).

CSP actually gets 0.835% harder, so yall have it EASIER than the average car running DOT tires. Keep crying that river.

The order of difficulty is actually:
<<<<Harder<<<<<
SM (0.46%), BSP, HS, GS, CS, FSP, STS, SS, SM2, DSP, AS (0.001%)
>>>>Easier>>>>
CSP (-0.006%), DS, ES, BS, ESP, ASP, STS2, STX, FS, STU (-0.72%)

Based on our sites and the results of our drivers, it seems that the STU folks have a decided advantage in all of this!!!

Since GS cars took both the Top Gun and X-Class wins this year, let's compare everything to GS. Let's say the GS cars all run 60.000 seconds, the following chart shows what you have to run in order to tie:

I hope not. I think it would be lame to have to put my initials on my car.

Edit: I'm hoping these buy me my .009 back.

Mike,

I'm thinking the same thing about mods to the 330i (instead of tearing up tires and dealing with a peg leg diff). I think with coilovers, camber plates and a limited slip differential plus buying some 8" rims for the rear, the car would qualify for STX. I think that might be right?

Below is shamelessly stolen image from ssscc.org site. I have not checked this for accuracy.

the problem with taking an absolute difference between two numbers is that it doesn't reflect the fact the starting numbers are all different magnitudes. HS and GS both have a difference of 0.009, but that is a bigger % change for HS.

I did some quick analysis of my own. I came up with some results similar to what Chuck's graph shows. It also ranks in the same order as Scott's "harder and easier". So 'SM' got the shaft, 'STU' come out smelling like roses.

A positive number is a "looser" and a negative number is a "winner". Basically a looser has a harder PAX when you take into account the average change across everyone. I calculated this in this way (I am not a statistician)...

(2007 Class PAX - 2007 Avg PAX) - (2006 Class PAX - 2006 Avg PAX)

It is interesting, that this generated banding of classes with the same calculated factor.

Well after the experience I had this past weekend in another Miata prepped for another class and after looking at Pax I might have found my class for 2007. Street tires here I come.

The Mini's should be. Hell, us DS guys have a tough enough time beating the GS times at most events. :(
