All in all a very good day. The course was quick with lots of transitions and took around 45-50 seconds for most. Among the classes to watch was SS which our very own Les Davis won over David O Maley and Scott Farmer. I believe less then 2/10ths of a second separated the three of them in the end, so it a very close battle of the street tired Z06s.

I apologize for missing where Stephen placed in SM and where Bernie placed in HS. I know that Bernie did take home a trophy in HS though so congrats to him for that. Gwen had an interesting first run where she took it easy and the display screwed up, so she asked what her time was and they told her it was a 46.xxx which would have been within 2 seconds of FTD. I think she went back later to check it out but I forgot to ask what the outcome was.

DS turned out really close with Matt McGrain, Brett Shillock, and myself all in the top 5 in Pax. I apologize if I missed any other Tarheel members that were there, my day was a bit hectic until about the middle of the 3rd run group.

The weather was very nice, just a little breezy and cool when the sun went behind the clouds. The course dried out early on with the aid of a backpack leaf blower and many brooms to sweep water off the racing surface. All in all a very good day.

I agree that it was a fun event Keith. Those Mercedes Crossfires are quite surprising. Great driving too.

I think the turnout was around 70 or so, so we got six runs all at once. For those who haven't raced at the 'Dixie' Fairgrounds it's a fun spot that's not like any of our venues in the sense that the course is a figure-eight. The grip is very similar to Sanford and the surface is in fairly good shape.

We had a ball too. About 5 minutes before the drivers meeting we noticed the front tires were starting to cord...so Bernie threw the new V710's on front. And , yes, we only had two new tires. Close inspection indicated the back tires were iffy too, but, oh well. Bernie's first run was squirrelly, to say the least, 2 spin outs but still had a 60. Dropped the pressure 5# below what we usually run in back and just dealt with a very grip challenged rear end. It was actually kind of fun. Bernie won HS and I won HSL. Bernie got some great video of Les in his new Z06. Unfortunally, it was with Les' camera so it's up to him if the video ever hits the big screen. Lets just say, what happens at Dixie Farigrounds stays at Dixie Fairgronds! I think Stephen got 2nd in SM-Les has your trophy-and watch out DS-Keith in his new Crossfire will be hot! He had a great day.

Certainly a good run for Keith. Let's see what it can do with legal wheels on it. It's too bad my co-driver bailed. Congrats to all THSCC'ers, for it sounds like everyone ran well. - AB

Thanks. I don't think the setup I have in mind once I get Konis and a front bar will be a handicap. The car will improve greatly with better shocks and a front bar along with getting rid of the crap load of factory toe in, that is in the back still.

Yeah, it was a good time, I just wish I hadn't forgotten my jacket. The Z06 is certainly a monster. I was just glad I was able to reign it in well it enough to take the win over all the other guys with "new to them" Z06s. I didn't really start feeling comfortable with the car until my 6th run, which was 1.5 seconds faster than my fastest clean run, but clipped a cone on that one. Mastering this beast is going to be a bit more challenging than I had anticipated, but should be a fun task. As for what happened and the video, well I'm I'd show it if anyone was interested, but it doesn't really look all that impressive in the video, I'm glad Bernie was recording the momentus occaision though. To kill the suspense, yes, after 9 years of autocrossing without an "off", I killed my streak yesterday and drove off to avoid taking out the timer head, a decision my wallet and TSCC appreciate I'm sure.

Congrats to Keith for driving the crap out of the Crossfire. What were you a couple tenths of FTD? Geez man, way to debut. Of course I didn't realize you were running illegal wheels, that must have been it.

Of course the wheels made me go into warp speed. In all honesty they didn't give me an advantage over what I can run on stock wheels. My times were all the car, it was just such a delight to drive.

If anyone thinks Keith is pumped up now, you should have seen him at the fair grounds. And rightly so..Good job Keith. Anyone one who can pilot a "trophy fodder dump truck" with smaller than stock wheels to within a few tenths of FTP deserves a pat on the back.
