I penned the following letter to the SEB regarding allowing aftermarket radiators in Street Prepared.

Quote:
To whom it may concern:

Especially at the local level, SP cars are often dual purpose DE and autocross cars in addition to their licensed and tagged streetable status. As such, engine longevity is pretty much in the forefront of people's minds when cars go on track or on course when flogging the go fast pedal is the primary focus of the day. Adding aftermarket radiators and other cooling options to the allowed oil coolers available are not performance enhancers and would not detract from competition in SP.

The following seeks to amend section 15.10 of the Solo Rulebook. Given that 15.10.A allows adding aftermarket oil coolers and 15.10.T allows adding transmission oil coolers, it would be in the spirit of Street Prepared to allow all lubrication and coolant fluid cooling to be free. This includes both engine cooling (radiator) and power steering cooling. This seeks to keep the "no ducting of air" to these coolers intact. Factory coolers, should such a part exist, may be upgraded to aftermarket equipment provided that the replacement, when full of the fluid in question, shall weigh no less than the factory unit and attach to the stock mounting points. Coolers not offered from the manufacturer (power steering, engine oil, transmission) may be added, provided that minimal mounting holes are drilled and no metal is cut or bent away from the manufacturer's design to facilitate installation. Engine coolant radiator fans are free, but no others may be added, nor shall ducting be directed to any other cooling device.

This change should not be interpreted as including fuel cooling or intake charge cooling.

Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing the results of member comment.

I have received the following reply from a member of the SPAC.

Quote:
We (the SPAC) have gotten a few letters on this, but not a lot. Y'all who want a change, the address is seb@scca.com -- and give us your reasoning. "Dear SPAC, I think we should be allowed to change radiators in SP. Thank you, Joe Autocrosser" doesn't bring a lot to the table. :D

If you support this, I would appreciate you taking a couple of minutes and shooting them an email.

Thanks,

Wes
