Rules on driving two cars?

For the NCAC, I assume there has to be a rule that prevents a driver from running in more than one class at the event (i.e. two different cars)? I looked through the THSCC rules, but I didn't see any reference to running two cars at an event (only saw mention of this in year end trophy part). I was pondering driving the 330 and also the M5; however, surely there are rules to prevent a driver from getting extra course time (even if not for points -- that's what they used to do ages ago) these days?

I'm just curious as it may make sense (to help out the club) for me to bring the M5 since it (incredibly) is classified in ESP by the SCCA. Even though I have these Dunlop semi-R-compounds (long wearing track event type tires) for it, I think it will be very competitive in ESP.

Maybe I should hold off on V710s for the 330 and just let Jackie drive it (DS - ladies) with the Dunlops it has now since I might have a better chance of a win in ESP. I see there is one car currently entered in that class. If I thought that V710s could take track abuse on the M5 (275/35- 18 ), I’m not against buying a set, but I think they would be quickly destroyed (overheated) at VIR in hot weather.

Thoughts?

You could potentially drive eight different cars at the NCAC (1 per run per day) as long as they are in the same class. This would be legal, but a pain in the butt. Changing classes would make you ineligible for any potential NCAC points.

We won't be allowing people multiple entries in different cars. As you stated, it would give you an unfair advantage in your second car from the runs you made in the first car. This is similar to the "no ride alongs for competitors that have yet to make all thier runs" rule. No competitors will have any in-car views of the course until it is thier time to run.

I think your assessment of the current ESP is right on target. Here is a quote from the guy currently registered in ESP (driving an Impala!)

However, he is clearly looking to change classes if someone offers up a suitable car. If that happens ESP may not be a legal "points" class.

Thanks for your reply Stephen. That is exactly what I expected, and thanks to Chris' pointer above, I now see the rules with regard to two entries.

Oh well, I wish there were more cars entered in ESP to make the decision easy. Thanks for the info. Chances sound pretty good that if I show up with the M5, he'll co-drive another class which would eliminate points for an ESP win.

This raises a good question. Is the online action considered pre-registration or registration? By that I mean is it rquired that people register online prior to a specific cut-off date or can they show-up in Greensboro on Saturday morning and register (or change their registration)?

For example, if two cars are in ESP as the day starts on Saturday, and at some time after that (perhaps after a club realizes how it can get advantage) one car withdraws (just stops participating), what happens to the orphan car in the class in terms of points?

We are not playing that game. Once registration closes, that's it.

Good question. I've spoken to several folks who are adamanat that they're attending both days, however, they aren't "registered" on our site. Will people be allowed to just show up and register, and will there be a cap? I see we're up to 186 on Sat and 183 on Sunday. I also heard registration might close early. Yes? No? :whoknows:

We planned to close ONLINE registration early, to decide on run/work groups.

Im very proud of the large number of THSCC members signed up. We are roughly 1/2 of the total registration list. :thumbsup:

I think it would be a good idea to make a last appeal to all of the clubs to urge everyone that plans to attend to pre-register by a specific date. This would improve the value of trying to determine run/work groups in advance. some of the clubs are not very good at pre-registering for events.
