Anybody shift to first for the finish?

Went to 1st on my 5th run that allowed me to beat brother Westerfield!!! I imagine he will be putting in a motion to ban 5th runs, and going back tto first at the finish.

I debated going back to 1st on my 5th run all the way into the slalom....but the old Integra tranny is in bad shape, so I opted against it at the last moment. Funny....2nd-6th place in SM had thier fastest run on thier 5th run. I would have been in 3rd instead of 5th if we only did 4. I still vote for 5 runs though if we can squeeze it in.

Mike managed to make his last run count by dropping over a half second off his previous best time. Me on the otherhand...all 5 runs were within 3 tenths of each other...and none of them "felt right". I hate running an event and leaving with the feeling that I never got the course right.

Did I mention that I will never let Feinberg behind the wheel of my car?

1. Nope, no computer issues, except for a couple of people who needed to be added to the registration list.

Yeah, sorry about that! Thankfully, Chris Brown alerted me and I humbly walked over to get it straightened out.

I tried a 1st gear finish just once and had to back off the throttle too much.

All five runs. I got it right twice. The other three, I was behaving like a carnally curious primate experimenting with an oblong leather bladder-filled piece of sports paraphernalia.

Loved the format (nothing like 5 runs 10 to 12 minutes apart (per my GEEZ Cube data) to really allow a rusty driver to learn the car and tires and course!

Course was great for the site. The emphasis is on driving the car at its limits rather than trying to figure out how to thread a needle. This was a big part of the low cone counts and minimal need for reruns. For those of you with "Nationals asperations" you really need courses which allow you to learn the cornering limits of the car more than the dimensional limits.

Did not use first gear after the initial upshift. 320 treadwear rated full tread tires and 300 ft lbs of torque means no point in shifting. My approach to rotating a car for a tight corner is a good line combined with very rapid steering at the "appropriate" moment (easy to say :) , hard to do  , did NOT do it Sunday :( )

FYI, according to GEEZ data I pulled about 1 G at the far end sweeper. For comparison: Last year Miles Beam's Corvette on Kumho Victoracers pulled about 1.25 g in the sweepers. I wish I had data for my formula car on slicks at Greenville. I would expect at least 1.5 g's.

ROFL!!! Don't get me started on my "tuck".

I forgot to add for the record:

On my quickest run (the infamous bonus run #5) I launched with my a/c on & realized it right before the first corner. Something in the compressor makes a squeal noise when I gas it hard. It's probably going to die soon.

Sooo, I waited for the upshift to second, and did a reverse karate chop manuever to flick the blower button left (off) and catch the shifter on the way back.

I think I came up with a new starting method...

Ok, next question:

Anyone else in a RWD car have trouble putting down powah in the first hard right hander? The hard left on the first pass thru the double?

Even my double digit torque monster (96 tq) had to tip toe thru the tulips there.

I kept trying to adjust the car to hook up there, but my maddd tite torque just kept breaking the rear loose.

I REALLY need to install that Mazdaspeed LSD

I should slap you in the mouth with a dead sea bass for that!!!!!!1 Redskins For Life. Even when life includes 1998-2005.

The "America's Team" Cowboys proved why they couldn't get first downs in the late nineties -- they thought that the yard lines were made out of cocaine and fell down to snort them.

Nope. Must have been my 320 treadwear tires and stock Ford posi.

Or maybe not enough cornering grip to unload the inside tire.

Or it could have been that I was below the 300 lb ft torque peak and only had 200 to 250 :P

On the other hand it could have been an understeery car and tentative driver not wanting to smoke his daily driver tires or his posi clutches :?

there was a big bump right before the turn, I know it was screwing up Patrice's runs until he changed his shift point. He would grab 2nd just as the rear was unloading and it would spin the back tires.

my observation, while green, was the more power i applied the faster the car would go thru that section. this was a Jim P. course ya'll. the problem with more speed and power thru the first section i found was the woaing down requiered for the next set of elements. my guess is that was an intentional design. i do not think i came even close to the amount of power i might have been able to apply thru the first section of the course. but again, green opinion. however i did enjoy it.
