Lets approach this from a different angle and revisit what we learned last year with the year long novice class.
-With a year long novice class, some aspiring Novice WILL buy a set of R-comps. After he waxes the field of street tired vehicles, others will join him.
-Novices who start running 1/2 way thru the year can do a couple of things
-Screw up points races amongst Novices who started at teh first event
-Get disenfranchised by the R-comp running Novices
-Novices who cant/dont want to afford R-comps are in the same boat again
Or you run it like we have now...
Pick your poison...
I disagree.
PJ gave Rob a good fight for 1st. And between Dan, Colin, Lucas, Cosby and Bernie 3rd could have gone anywhere. Some of it was decided simply by number of events.
We had discussed not allowing YLN to use R-comps. But it didn't get implemented. That would have alleviated the issue of the enterprising Novice showing up on Hoosiers/Victoracers.
Any person who joins this club mid-season is not likely to take a top spot in any class for season awards. So a NOV moving to Open after 1-4 events is no different. Many of us used TIR as a place to go after NOV with the notion that it was a good place, me included. I should have just gone to AS right away. I got talked into starting AS my 2nd year for the very same reason most of these arguments want to end TIR. It dilutes the abundance of existing classes. And that was when there were 2 STx classes. There are now at least 4 STxx classes if I remember right. And I started in AS with a stock C4 on street tires, that I drove on everyday. The most fun I had was chasing Miles in his C4 trying to cut down the time difference between us.
Just a different perspective...
