All 3 of us (me, my wife, and the other guy, I really can't remember his name, but he drove the lime green X CRX) were out there for about 1:45 at which point I sent my wife back to our tent, since the last grid of cars was just starting at that point. We (me and the other guy) were out there for almost 2.5 hours in total.

Was that Scott Sawyer? He's such a n00b.

so, the wheel, would people in the bus actually keep such a system up to date?

Honestly Brice, I wouldn't ask the bus workers to perform any task other than making sure the times and penalties are entered in the computer properly. It can get VERY crazy in the bus, especially at the bigger sites like Laurinburg and there would be no time to do a simple task like spinning a wheel.

Don't get me wrong, I have seen Triads wheel and agree that it keeps them in check. I think it would be more relevent if we used AXWare to set rungroups like Triad does but I think there could be an application here.

I just wouldn't put it on the T&S team to "keep it up to date."

To follow up on Todd's comment, the timing workers don't always know where things stand in the heat. Usually we are too busy calibrating the random penalty generator. Sometimes Ryan gets lonely and stops by to ask us to add a cone or two to Vincent's runs. But I digress.

In the past, we have run a red flag up on a pole (on the old bus we had a flag pole) to signal that it was time for workers to report. We've passed out slips at registration that told you what your class was and what heats you were running. Some people still didn't figure it out. Personally, I think a combination of flares and an orange light bar on top of the bus would do the trick, but of course we would have to replace the light bar each time Ryan drove the bus.

In closing, I long for those happy days when we just called each other elitist snobs.

The funy thing about this is the A/B four group model was suppose to help with the worker situation. I wonder if just adds confusion to the mix without any benefit.

Actually, I was thinking that this wheel would be as useful to the T&S workers as it would be to the rest of the folks. We often have no idea where we are in a heat (or sometimes even what heat) as we are typically facing away from the grid, and basically immersed in a constant stream of times and car numbers and radio calls. Someone often has to remind us periodically to print results because of this.

Combining things being dicussed in two threads here, another thought crossed my mind. When we are running the announcer laptop, can we connect the printer to it instead? That way results/audit sheets can periodically be printed out from there rather than interrupting the T&S workers.

Hmm. Maybe I'm permanently confused, but I find the current system incredibly easy, by far the easiest I've ever seen. With other systems, I have to figure out how it works at every event; at modern THSCC events, I know how it works before I ever get to the site. So it benefits at least one person.

Just to re-iterate: the system is explained very well on the excellent website.

And there in lies one problem Martyn. Last year Rob and I figured that most of the Novices had not read any of that based on the questions they would ask in the Novice meetings. Especially Grid A/B. We could understand the 2 driver car thing. But the most basic parts of autox were not even read. Yet somehow they all figured out how to get to the registration page. Go figure

We have been emailing every novice that provides an email address when they register, here is a quote

Quote:
We use standardized run groups, this information is posted at the bus. Know when your class runs and when you work. Each run group typically takes two runs in the morning and two runs in the afternoon. We don't announce run group changes so ask folks if you lose track of where we are in the event.

- Our grid is divided into two lanes- Lane A and Lane B. Lane A will run first and is only for drivers that must work the NEXT heat. Lane B is for drivers that do not work the next heat. Exception: Two driver cars start in Lane A for the first driver then grid in Lane B for the second driver.
