First off, I'd like to thank those guys for a great event. It was much more like a test-and-tune than a THSCC event, I got to run almost 30 runs! For a n00b, it was seat-time heaven. I got in about eighteen (single lap) runs before the timed event which were two-lap runs, and then another five fun runs when everybody else was packing up to go.

It was a fun little course set up, and really fast; I thought about grabbing third on the back straight, but the lightpole on the outside of the middle of the sweeper that ended that straightaway cleared my head of any such shenanigans, especially after a really spirited understeer through the first part of it on a later run carried a downed marker cone along with me ... my left front tire is now a dedicated rear tire from now on.

As far as the drifting goes, it was fun to laugh at those guys. I now know where all of the old 240 SX's have gone -- they're now turboed with crappy tires on the rears. One guy was really insane, a brand new 350Z (not sure which package) with tigerstripe decals that really got sideways well. One MR-2 t-boned a light post to the delight of the hundred or so teenagers there, and I saw about eight tires explode. The funny thing is that about ten seconds before a tire blows, you can see sparks from the steel belts spinning on the asphalt. Good times.

Sounds like they ran a real safe event. Exploding tires and hitting light poles. Hopefully a news crew or reporter wasn't handy.

Great, another stupid F-up to improve public perception and drive up insurance costs for folks like us.

The drifting event. Only saw two spins at the autox. Drifters, I have concluded, are morons. Turbo a 240 SX, put on crappy rear tires, quick 1-2-3 shift, and keep your foot on the floor and steer. Or take a beater Civic, put on cheapo fronts and stomp throttle and e-brake a lot. Mustangs make crappy drifters because they actually put the power to the pavement and can't spin for days.

Also, which event did three John Q. Laws at one point watch? I'll give you a hint --> not the autocross.

Fortunately, the drifting event was separated from us by a wall and several hundred yards. Naturally, that didn't stop spectators from trying to drive through our event to watch those asshats ...

Imagine getting cussed out by some old black woman because she can't use our event as a shortcut.

I like it when someone drives up and goes straight onto the grid like if they just wait in line they will get a turn.

I seem to remember that maybe it was at an event last year or two ago at Rocky Mount in which someone just drove up and was in line. They were in line for about 1/2 a second before someone made them move.
