Due to declining participation in DS, ES, and FS, the following general conceptual proposals are being considered by the SAC: Combining CS and ES; combining DS and FS. Member input is requested on these possible approaches.

What? I could *maybe* see ES and CS combined, but Hype-R's and pony cars together? Odd. Maybe a total restructuring of stock classes is in order.

If they combine CS and ES. I see the death of the Mk.2 MR2 and early miatas in competitive stock class. The DS and FS combination is odd because it seems each car would have its strengths and weaknesses making the class very course dependant but then again, SS is much the same way with the Z06 and the Elise battle. Either way if ES goes to the wayside there will probably be a 94 R package up for sale.

Usually they don't remove classes without also adding classes somewhere, too. My guess is they're expecting to combine CS and ES and expecting members to poo-poo the DS and FS combination, thus leaving them one class they can add. Likely scenario appears to be adding something between SS and AS. They'd probably then put the C6 Z06 and maybe the GT3 in the fastest class, leave everything else in the current SS (thus really sort of moving it down) and leave AS alone. I don't think the want to mess up the S2K playground by taking a chance on moving stuff like the Cayman down, but I'd like to see them do that (though I won't complain if they don't).

I can't see these proposals getting a lot of favorable member support. The major reason for any stock class participation decline is due to poor classing decisions IMHO. The only competitive DS cars are a 40K+ BMW and the rarer than hen's teeth TypeR. Pony cars are set for a revival next year with the reintroduction of the Camaro and Challenger along with a supercharged version of the Solaris. Mazda has a new performance coupe version of the Miata coming as well. Then there's that sleeper Porsche hiding in the wings.
The SEB has always protected ES as the sacred class for yesterday's sportscars.

The main reason they aren't going to get any support is they're basically saying "hey, comment on us taking two classes away." Nobody in the faster of the classes is gonna complain about having slower cars added to their class. People in the slower classes *are* going to complain about losing a competitive place to play. So in absence of a good reason for *someone* to like it, it doesn't seem likely to be done to me.

Now, if the proposal also said they were considering removal of a class to add another class for C6 Z06's and GT3's (let's call it "19-Stock" for cars that only come with 19" wheels..hehe), then you'd at least have *someone* writing support letters. But not nearly as many as the letters they're gonna get defending ES and FS.

You would think it would be the DS guys writing letter defending since they are considered slower atleast by Pax numbers. Eithey way I can't help much with the support of ES because the National schedule doesn't exactly work with my college schedule. I will be at the Peru NT but driving my friend's STS Honduh.

I saw it this morning and no more than 10 minutes afterwards I was pulling out all my information to get my stock Bilsteins revalved with more aggressive valving than the off the shelf Konis can offer. When I heard I was lifting an inside rear wheel this past weekend in one of the corners that made me decide to put better shocks on the car if ES stayed around next year.

I am running the 7/8 Addco bar. I hate running a big front bar on most cars. I would much rather make up the difference with shock tuning, especially when my Bilsteins only cost $65 per shock to rebuild and I have some proven valving specs that I really want to try out.

I went from a 1" Suspension Techniques solid bar to a 9/8" Racing Beat and haven't looked back. There's a thread on sccaforums on the ES MR2 front bars that is worth a look.

Yea I have seen that thread but thanks for pointing it out. My problem is I already have to manhandle the car a little bit because the manual steering has a slower ratio than the power steering. In order to not move the steering as much I have found it faster to upset the chassis slightly upon turn in and slide the tail of the car around, especially in slaloms. If I put a bigger front bar on the car I will have to drive around the understeer. Plus I just realized Wes you are running stiffer springs front and rear than stock and a big front bar is the default for STS2 or CSP miatas. I feel it is preference. I know most CS miatas run the 9/8 RB bar.

It may be personal preference, but I went from being a backmarker last year in ES to coning away first on TWO different runs on street tires with a blown driver's rear shock at the last Laurinburg event. It was night and day. It might be at least worth testing. (Chris Brown has my old 1" ST bar)

I know Keith already knows this...I also ran a 7/8ths bar on my 94R and it was one of the best Miatas in the country at the time...back in the mid to late 90s. Of course, I had to let other people drive my car to find that out since I couldn't get it to go that fast. Anyway, there is no one magic setup for the ES Miatas, rather there are at least several very good setups. So, it just boils down to course design, driving style, and what setup you are most comfortable with & can exploit.

Just my 1 1/2 cents.
