Day 1 results are up.

http://www.scca.com/Event/Result.asp?Ref2=257

Looks like Adam is have a pretty good day. So is G.H. compared to the results from Ft. Myers. Adam is in 6th and G.H. is in 7th. Donnie is in 14th.

Those are the only Tarheelers I saw.

I respect Donna Marx for running with the big dawgs, getting out of her GS Celica and into a Corvette Z-06 in open class, beating the only SS-L competitor. And losing to Keath?

I'm amazed that Rod McGeorge isn't faster in his ASP 06 Z-06; he's losing to C5 SS cars ...

Interesting to see Courtney Cormier out of the Mini and into the spec Civic Si class too.

No DS cars? That's weird.

-Good luck Tarheelers!

Good point. I've been noticing that DS is becoming less popular on the national scene these days. I think there are a couple major reasons for this:
1) Everybody thinks the 3-series is the car to have for DS. Since they are more expensive, I think less people are campaigning them.
2) Type R's are getting more and more rare.

Oh well...

GH was third quickest in SS today in the Cayman, which was good. The bad part was he was still 1s back from Braun in the Elise. The Elise Braun was driving was stock with a front sway bar, no diff, and on Hoosier A6's. My car is stock on A6's, too.

I suck.

I totally agree with you as I have driven one that belonged to my friend in NY and it was probably the most fun autocross car I have ever driven (Yes more fun than a miata or STi). Maybe eventually I will buy one when the prices come down a little more or when I can afford a second car that costs more than 10k.

Congrats to GH. Nicely done. I do hate that you had to knock my brother down a notch to get 6th though.

Congrats to GH. Sorry Donnie things didn't work out but it seems the car may be competitive. Are there any plans for a FSB and exhaust?

GH isn't a member and as such doesn't read the forum, but I'll try to remember to pass on the congrats this weekend.

As for the car being competitive, we pretty much disagree. This was a high speed transition course that was good for the Elise and Cayman. And a stock Elise on A6's with an FSB kicked our butts. GH didn't think there was much time left in the car on day two in particular. Braun is pretty good, but Brian Connors was within a tenth of him on day two. That tells me Braun probably had a good bit of time left in his car, particularly once he gets shocks and a diff in it.

There's no diff for us. We're pretty sure it's impossible to put any significantly larger bar on the car (and GH even thinks it really may not need it). An exhaust would only help in the weight department, but even then not by more than 25 pounds or so. But that's moot, because the new design integrates a second cat pretty much *in* the muffler which means there's not much left to replace "cat back." (Porsche is known for doing better exhausts as far as power is concerned than any aftermarket companies when talking about cat-back systems...GH tried several aftermarket systems on his Boxster and all lost significant amounts of power at the dyno).

The only thing left would be shocks, which I'm firmly convinced aren't going to help that car enough to be worth the expense.

The only thing we proved, IMHO, is that the car isn't competitive in SS and probably is competitive, if not a slight favorite, in AS.

As for the A6's, they seemed clearly better in my observation than S05's. They seemed to get hot *fast* (my first runs each day felt good out of the box), yet they didn't build too much heat and did cool fast. Kumho folks were cooling tires on a cool day, and we didn't have to touch ours. The CS folks seemed to think the A6's were clearly better than S05's, too. Personally, I'll be shocked if everyone isn't on A6's that can get them in their size needs, including the Vette folks. But that's based on pretty limited data so far.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Richard,
Are you trying to mess everybody up by keeping the thread on topic? :D

Sorry about the mis-interpretation. I knew GH wasn't a member but I figured I would say congrats to him anyway. Adam congrats on your drive also.

Donnie, I am aware that Porsche's shocks are very good from the factory, but I didn't know that there wasn't really anything to gain from a sway bar or exhaust. Thanks for clarifying that. It does seem after hearing that, that the Cayman probably won't be a contender in SS.

Yes I am. Or maybe not 8)

Speaking of Donnie and GH, did anyone see the photo of Donnie's car in this months GRM? Looks to be GH in the car, but it mentions that it is "Donald Barne's" car. If I ever make it into a national magazine, I hope they get my name right.
