i am thoroughly perplexed.

I have a BSP prepped e36 M3. the only thing keeping it BSP is the Xbrace.. if i removed that it would be STU (aftermarket springs).

so the debate begins and its important because i need to figure out if i need to buy Rcomps or street tires.. a costly investment so i want to make sure i'm being smart.

id prefer buying street tires because theyd be cheaper and last longer so STU is tempting.. and i could then also run Tire class which should have more competition than BSP and probably be more fun.

running BSP in Tire seems goofy though because the pax is setup assuming Rcomps.. so its probably too harsh in Tire class compared to ST* paxes.. i could take off the brace and run STU/TIRE. ahhh

who will be in BSP this year?

this is rediculous.. any ideas?

Rob, youre BSP right? Mike, BS/X?

You can't run ST* pax in TIR class - allowing that wouldn't really make sense, would it? Noob. :P

So if you run in TIR class against PJ, he'll be running an R compound class index, too. (either DS or ESP, I'm guessing)

I like ST*, because I can drive to the event on my race tires, and drive around 90% of the year on them, too. If that doesn't matter to you, and you feel like you're a good enough driver & know the car well enough to put the best gripping tires on it available so that they hide your mistakes, go for BSP. 8)

hah yeh i was wondering about that. me and PJ were talking about him running STX in tire and i guess we just never thought about it. the plot thickens.

the car came w/ an extra set of wheels so i dont need to have to drive on them daily. either way (ST or rcomp) i probably wouldnt because id use the staggared oem wheels daily and the non staggared wheels for autox so i could rotate more easily

Sell the springs and x-brace on eBay. Use the money for some r-comps and run BS. Learn to drive the car, go to as many events as time allows and then go from there. Your car is far from BSP or STU prepared.

Your goal was to consolidate for a house purchase. By the time you prep the car to reflect BSP or STU PAX, your down payment is shot.

Running a BSP PAX in the tire class will just be very frustrating. The PAX is not soley based on r-comps. The PAX is based on fully prepped national level cars (engine, suspension, drivers). Not sure if you have ever had a chance to look at a nationally prepped BSP M3. Lee Piccone was trying to get me to switch to an M3 for BSP. It was tempting...but I need my extra kidney right now. If you get a chance, travel up to the DC region to see his car.

Also keep this in mind - Dan is a good driver, but he's still a noob. Getting all of the performance out of any setup is not going to happen right now, so it really doesn't matter whether his car is "far from BSP or STU prepared" or not.

I could spend $10K on parts for my STi & be "STU prepared" or I could spend $200 to install a set of camber bolts, get a good alignment and install a bigger front bar for my otherwise stock car and still be "STU prepared" - remember that not everybody thinks in terms of preparing the car 100% for the class it's running in. Some people think in terms of "here's what I have, now let's see how fast I can make it go." :D

If you really want to run BSP, don't let anyone talk you out of it, Dan. And if you want to run BS, go for it. Just remember to think in terms of what your personal goals are, not in terms of a "nationally prepped M3."

Hey, if I had a "nationally-prepped STU STi" I wouldn't be able to play in the dirt with it.

+2.

I actually decontented a CSP prepped Miata to go to ES last year, paying ~$130 on Ebay for rear swaybar and stock intake assembly. Now that I somewhat learned the car, I purchased stuff to go back to a higher CSP prep. Naturally, I blew an engine in the DD, to slow down the installation of these goodies, but these things happen.

Or, do like I did...prep for fun daily driving and let the car fall where it may. Who cares about Pax?
