Unfortunately, drag starts are not fair to some stock classes. If we were to be 'gunned' it would have to be where the Sanford course design opens up the most...allowing the lighter less HP cars to use their carrying speed advantage and allowing the (typically) heavier cars with higher HP to accelerate into the 'trap' area.

60' is 1.6s for a good driver :)

How about this...

Launch
Long straight (maybe 1/8th mile)
Radar gun
Braking
Tightness which leads into start timer, then you run a regular course

Doesn't give any advantage to high-hp cars, because the course start timer is after the drag strip. Maybe it's not something we could do, maybe it is. But it's different... :D

Highest mph number could be given an award.

As GM of the event, NO. It complicates way too many things.

i wasn't planning on bringing my GM product, but a 1/8 mile sounds like fun. we could call it "sleepin on the overpass" you know, handicap the shorties. woops october event, not sanford. can't make that one.

Have the course end with a turn around followed by a 1/4 mile straightaway! I'll bring my T/A out for that.

I'm with Ryan on this one, top speed has little/nothing to do with AX, if you want to see how fast you can go in 60', 1/8, 1/4 just take your car to Rockingham Fri or Sat eve instead. Oops that won't work, the IHRA world finals are that weekend there... FIELD TRIP! Sat nite is "Night of Fire"!!! I know where I'll be Sat eve!

The only 1.6 60' times I see at Prosolos have nothing to do with the driver, but with having a high powered 4WD vehicle at least in stock and street classes. 2WD 60' are more in the 2.0-2.5 sec range.

Have we ever radar-gunned a slalom?

It would be fun to set up a long "regulation" slalom like all the car magazines use to test sports cars. Then check everyone's speed in it and try to beat the magazine, or see what high $$ cars your sh!tbox Miata can beat :)

Really awesome idea!

At the first event I did in Sanford about 2.5 years ago, there was a gun on the slalom and the results were scribbled down and scanned into the results, IIRC.

At Sanford a few years back we had the gun entering the slalom. We worked you to the railroad track side of the runway and then sent you into a slalom that slashed across the runway. The MR2 was on the limiter entering. The slalom was 5 cones and about 2o paces.

Probably would have been more telling on the exit :)

I can't remember your name..but I can recall about 80% of the courses I have driven!

Unless you are driving the GT3 like I did at the Finale this year... 1.7-1.8 60' times were the norm. Man I love that car!

The gun at Sanford (my first event chair job) was after a turnaround (not a pivot cone, but a REAL turnaround :D ) and a few offsets that led into a short "straight" - if you were good & your car was slow (my situation  ), you could accelerate full throttle from the turnaround to the gun. We gunned you at an offset gate which was the braking point for a slalom.

Patrice won the award, but I can't remember the exact speed. I think he was in the 60's.

Lee Williams was my co-chair, and he made a "crown" for the speed king - I think I've seen it mounted in the bus. :?

I was in 3rd gear in the 2.5RS, and I think my speed was around 56mph or so.
