Please do not sign up if you plan to use this as a testing session. You are simply taking a spot from someone that wants to learn. This club is awesome in having numerous testing session. Hell, there was a 2 day testing just a couple of weeks ago.

The school is for learning and maybe picking something up that you have been missing. It is not a dial in school.

Actually, instructing is a great way too learn also. If you can verbalize to the student, you have it mastered in your head. And autocross is at least 50% mental.

Exactly. Christine didn't think she was good enough to instruct at the Chicks' school, but afterward she said she had a great time, her students improved a lot, and she learned a lot by instructing.

Edited because Evil Karl has apparently gone away and Nice Karl has returned! I still think you need a vacation though :) Somewhere on the beach with a waiter named Pepe who will bring you drinks with umbrellas in them.

I'd go with really confused.

My opinion is that you practice what you drive. If you are going to hack it up, HACK it up. Don't change cars as A LOT of RWD/FWD driving traits are NOT going to transfer over to driving an AWD car.

Point in Case:: Pivot/Corner exit. AWD = gas gas gas. RWD/FWD = Apply to limit of traction... especially without a LSD.

Of course, that is my opinion. Driving something else might be 'fun' but it ain't gonna always apply... especially to a 3483 lbs AWD car with 235 awhp.

There ARE two sides to this arguement, but I am going to ignore all those with less than 200Awhp :) (I stole that one from teh great "Alien".) :)

I have to disagree. The car does not matter. I know the AWD people won't believe me. But the very best drivers in the country can drive any car fast. The principles of Solo2 are the same regardless of what kind of car. If you ever read Andy Hollis' 10 Points of Autocross, there is not an addendum for AWD, FWD or RWD.

Case in point....pivot/corner. You brake early, get your turn started and begin to apply the gas (brake/turn/gas)..it does not matter what kind of a car. Now, where you might execute those will differ slightly.

While I conceed that the basics of driving ANY car will always be relatively the same, the implementation and timing of those basics WILL change based on setup, weight, hp, lateral grip, time of day, spin of the earth, etc...

So, my *personal* feeling out of it is if I am at the *intermediate* level, or such a 'level' where I am USED to the car and I am trying to 'fine hone' my responses with the car, it is not as benificial to me to put myself in another car where I am introducing even MORE variables that will show things I am doing wrong (because I am not used to that new environment).

My example with the pivot cone.
In an AWD FI car: I brake hard EARLIER with a heavy 34xx lb car, downshift to 1st, and tight corner + WOT + clutch slip on the way out... there is a fine line here to not bog the engine.

In a RWD NA car: I brake a little LATER with a 29xx car, Downshift to 1st, and tight corner + ease gas + clutch.... There is a find lne here not to smoke the rear tires.

While it would be 'fun' to get a different perspective, I would rather get more 'intune' with my car and the way I need to drive it to be faster.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree with Jim. It was quite amazing watching Pat Salerno when I lived in NY jump from his 350Z to a Boxster to a Z06 and then to a DM Caterham Seven and go seriously fast in each of them. I remember thinking now I want to be able to do that. 8) The fact is if you are a talented driver such as Pat or Mark Daddio, doesn't matter what car you drive you will be fast.

What Jim is saying is that the course is the course is the course, no matter what car you drive. Yes, you have to make adjustments based on what car you're driving & how it's setup. But you have to know how to drive the course so that you can know what to do with the car. Make sense?

I guess you just solved my problem with driving the WRX. I hate AWD in autocross. I can't turn a truly respectable time in the WRX at an event yet I jumped into the miata and ran respectable than put race tires on it and got noticed by some of the faster guys. Maybe it is just that I hate the turbo lag and AWD's inability to spin the tires at all to avoid bogging. I guess that is another reason I am considering turning the WRX back to totally stock after the Subaru Challenge because I realized after this weekend that it is the car not working the way I want it to that is keeping me from turning times that I am happy with. I will prove that I am fast enough next year when I get my race tires back on.
