I didn't look at my speedo at the time and haven't checked it otherwise, but I know it's definitely below 60 mph, and I'd bet well below. (STi's are among the few cars that requires going to 3rd gear for the 0-60 test.)

I glanced down once during a run on the limiter in second...56mph or so on 225/45/17's.

You STI guys need either a taller second gear or less power. Per GEEZ Miles' Vette got to the braking point for the Chicago box in 7 seconds after a "soft" launch due to tire spin. We upshifted before the right hand kink and then held second. The car doesn't have a rev limiter since power drops off rapidly at well before "nasty noise" RPM. "Official" redline is about 62 mph and it doesn't appear that we got to that speed from the shape of the accel plot even though it was tapering off "linearly" for the last second or two of the straight. Of course "low" rpm throttle response/torque is essentially instant with no lag unless the tires spin. :P

oh and what happened to the guy in the G35x? I saw his first 'idiotic' run where he seemed to have mixed up the brake and gas pedal while taking out the chicago box and then skidding off the course in the turn around..

according to the results that was his one and only run.. did he get asked to leave or did he just give up?

I was really watching him as I have been dying to bring my G out...I didn't get a good idea what it could do from watching him though. I don't think anyone talked to him....I watched him drive straight to his pit spot, pack his stuff and leave. :whoknows:

He said that he didnt realize the event lasted so long, and asked if he had to stay the whole event. I told him 'no, you can do whatever' and he let me know he had to head into work.

Wow, that was a little mean. Just thinking we all have to take our embarrassing lumps. (but if he had to go to work, that's different.)

My honest opinion was that he was out there with what little time he had to go drive fast. I would like to talk to him again as I met him at the gate and a few other times throughout the day -- super nice guy.

I just think he was trying to cram too many things into Sunday, and ran out of time.

That was his 'hazard light'/full tilt boogie run.

If he shows up again, we will be sure to get him with a Novice Coordinator. He seems to have the same driving style as me, so I am sure we can work something out :)

Bring it on out and play in DS! After only two entries on Sunday, we could use a few more in the group.

He was reading the paper in the car with the AC on before we started. I didn't recognize him, but he apparently didn't feel the novice meeting, drivers' meeting, work shift or anything else was important. If he returns, somebody point him to us.

Thanks for checking, Chris.

BTW, I have verified speedo error on my STi w/stock (225/45/17) tires, and it read 5% faster than actual speed. So, on stock tires, our actual speed is more like 53 mph at 2nd gear rev limit. On Sunday I was on larger tires (245/45/17) for improved gearing, but that only gets me to about 54-55 mph at the rev limiter in 2nd gear, assuming I calculated correctly.

Unfortunately, I really needed about 60 mph before the braking zone going into the Chicago box.

60??? Try 64 (3rd - corrected)!!! ;D

Obviously, speed into that box does not a fast time make. Doesn't matter if you lose all the speed in time it takes to heel toe and you brake too much in the sweeper :(
