A "theory" regarding Greenville grip on first runs for R tires:

The surface is extremely smooth texture compared to most other sites.
R tires tend to collect rubber and to have some roughness from most sites.
R tires tend to get a little "crispy" between events.

Since Greenville is smoother I SUSPECT that it takes a little longer for R tires to get the optimum "surface finish" for the Greenville surface. Once that happens the grip appears to be rather good.

Dick (who had lots of grip after the first run or two on the tires).

Everybody please give NOVICES PJ Aspesi and Dan Durusky each a pat on the back the next time you see them - they helped us set up, mark, and tear down the Sunday course on Saturday, then they helped me set up, mark & sweep the Saturday night course for the next few hours after that. (110° heat index at the time) And after certain individuals took it upon themselves to rearrange our course just before the event was supposed to start, they helped me change it back. Thanks, guys. :D

I second that! PJ and Dan arrived early (earlier than us for setup) and stayed late BOTH DAYS. A huge thanks to both of them for their hard work especially in the heat.

These two are role models for any noobs to the club. They ask questions, they listen, they are eager the learn, and most of all they are eager to get involved and help.

THANKS AGAIN YOU GUYS

i really liked this course design. it was a good way to use the space available. it did seem like there were some areas where a lot of cones were not replaced in time and re-runs were granted. dont know who's fault that was tho.

i was working station 2(2nd time through, slalom by the chicago box), and it was really hard to run out to the center section to replace a cone without holding up the start. it also almost killed you b/c of the heat.

i still had a great time, and the bunny didnt break (hooray)

There were also a lot of cones reset through areas that were run through twice. It'd be a shame to be penalized twice for hitting the same cone that you knocked down.

that was a fun event. i took finally winning novice to balance out my bad luck at the event (smashed sideskirt, bald street tire (alignment??argg), swollen up/puss'y ankle from fireants, mild heat stroke) haha but it was worth it.

i learned a lot about setting up and what these guys have to go through to make these things happen. it is a lot of work and it should definately be appreciated and respected.

thanks to Kevin for co-driving my car. he showed me how its done and it payed off really well, i learned a lot. He also showed those pesky STIs whats up :P

fun times fun times

You could avoid hitting cones . . .

I only hit two on Sunday. I blame Vincent for that. ;)

I keep offering to co-drive with Marcus or Brian, but apparently they're too skeered. :P

I never did get used to the amount of grip the R32 had; I kept braking too early and not getting on the gas soon enough because I'm so used to street tires. Oh, and running the whole course one time with the parking brake on didn't help either. Lots of fun, though.

When I took an R32 out for a fun run, I had Christine Allen in the car. When I braked for the Chicago box, her sunglasses flew off. That's some serious brakes, right there.

I looked at the results and fail to see how Keith should be worried?

Cones count.

I had a great time. We enjoyed the Saturday night and Sunday setups. Thank you to all who planned, set up and ran the event. Thanks, Mary, for continuing to mentor and instruct me. It is greatly appreciated. The more I do this the more I understand the things you’re trying to explain to me. When I can actually get my hands and feet to do what I envision, I’ll be a step closer to the rear view mirrors of those I’m chasing.

Excellent course and event. Hats off to the event chairs and everyone else who made it work. The day went quite smooth. Other than the heat issue it was an excellent day.

I would agree with Patrice that Grid is a problem there. I like his idea of only gridding A then letting B roll in as A finishes off has merit. Maybe we could try that next time we're there.

As much as I don't care for that site. Having the building and shade yesterday was probably the saving grace that all of us didn't get heat stroke! Hope everyone is feeling better today and starting to recover.

Graham

Very true. Like it was said earlier, if were in LB things would have been much worse. The shade provided most of us with much needed relief.

Also note worthy is the new site owner, Will Guttu. He is a great guy. He's very friendly, and as Ryan says he "get's it" in reference to what we do. Not only did he move ALL the cars, he provided us with shade, trash cans, fans, and even snow cones by days end. He came out several times on Saturday to talk to us and genuinely enjoyed having us there.
