If you are home and not in Greensboro this weekend, you are missing out on a lot of fun. Awesome course by Geoff Zimmer.
Amen to that! After a slightly slow start due to a couple of timer issues (and one clueless outside spectator wandering across the course), Triad ran a nearly flawless event. While it was blazing hot out there, there were plenty of places to grab a bit of shade and they had the coliseum open which provided an air-conditioned place to take the edge off and clean bathrooms. Heck, if you somehow got bored, you could check out the dog show going on inside. At one point, there must of been 15 Corgis running around which at first sight I thought Jim P's dogs had run amuck and gone on a wild breeding spree!
The course was great and offered a variety of elements that we don't see a lot of due to our site limitations. There was a loooong downhill off-camber sweeper that had a pucker factor as high as any Lauringburg course-- I don't think I ever got that one right. With the exception of having a slalom that wasn't flat for the lower hp cars (read: 100hp CRX), the course had a great mix of places where patience was *required* and places where you could attack with no mercy. With good overlap and 3 cars on course at a time, the grid was moving so fast people were having trouble keeping their tires cool. All in all, fun fun fun!
The Tarheel contingent drove very well today and it was nice to see everybody out there. Our Prez is currently sitting 3rd in PAX (after a great run on his first look at the course!) with many other Tarheel'ers in the top 10.
Despite being dead tired, I can't wait to get back out there tomorrow!
