I'm planning on going to NCAC to get exposed to what I perceive to be a higher level of competition due to this being a regional thing and to see if my AS competitors have been holding back during our local competitions :)

Is there anything I should know about in terms of how things are done at these types of events? Anything outside of:

-Arriving early
-Register/work assignment
-course walks
-car prep, including using the same magnets I always use

I'm assuming that everything will flow as it has during our THSCC events BUT want some input in case there is some procedural thing that I don't know about.

Thanks, Chris

Since the NCAC is being run by Triad, I am assuming it will be like all the other Triad events this year. They do a couple of things differently then us just to let you know. They let the timing software determine run groups so that everything is divided up evenly (so you won't have all stock cars running in one group and all prepared and modified cars running the other group like you do at our events). Also, you don't sign up for work groups like you do at our events. During the drivers meeting they will announce when you run and when you work. When it is time for you to work, you just report for duty and they assign you to a position.

Chris-

The NCAC event will not seem to foreign to you. As has been pointed out, we'll make all of runs at the same time (not two and two like THSCC). One thing that is a little different is that after a heat is run there will be an impound. Basically after your runs are done, you return to grid and open your trunk and hood. This is a time when competitors can file a protest. It will probably take about 10-15 minutes and there will probably not be any protests filed. The only other procedural twist is that usually cars will run in a defined order within the run group. All AS cars will make their runs one after the other, rather than being mixed in within the larger run group.

You will enjoy it.

I believe they are still ironing out some details. But it will not work any where near the THSCC events. They are planning on using standard run/work order format.

Usually your run/work will be posted either at registration or early Saturday morning.

For example, let's say they have 4 run groups. If you are driving in run group 1 you would work run group 3 and vice versa. If you work run group 2, you drive in 4...pretty straight forward. Usually, there is a 15 minute course walk between run groups 2 and 3.

You will make all of your runs in your run group. All of AS will be gridded together and make their runs together. That makes it fair for each class. Also is a great social time. Although, as you move up the ladder of competition...the social aspect drops off :)

The other principles of numbers, course walking, registration still apply. If you can register and tech the night before, all the better. One less thing to worry about Saturday morning.

I am not sure if they are running an impound, usually for NCAC this is not done. At the higher levels, impound becomes the social area. You runs are done for the day and you can relax and chat.

Thanks for the input. I'm glad I asked!

The other major difference is that they will be using national tour format: Two different courses on Sat and Sunday, combined best times for each course will be your score for the event.
