I rated the KD low because it's too temperature sensitive. They like heat, but not too much heat. They are terrible when it's cool out (sub 70 degrees ambient temperature) and fall off horribly with too much heat. The compound is too hard for good wet weather traction, even though the pattern suggests they'd be good in the wet. The KD-W is great in the rain, but horrible in the dry. Price really isn't a factor for me, but the KD is outrageously priced. I wasn't impressed with the KD's on Jack's GS as compared to any Azenis or the MX.
The MX is good only if shaved from new. If you grind them down, they chunk and get too many heat cycles, aside from the lack of grip from a lot of tread squirm. When shaved, they are awesome. Problem is, you need to dedicate them to just autocross, for they heat cycle out with running them on the street. The Azenis can handle a lot more heat cyles than the MX. - AB
Hmm. I would not expect the KD to be a good rain tire at all. BFG says they are not. The nickname "Killer Dry" seems to be their strength. Where the KDW is supposed to be Dry/Wet, but a compromise tire. It's good to know about the temp issues. These were on the top of my list. New GY-F1-SC are about the same price. So are PS2 (actually a bit more).
Maybe the reason the MX didn't work as well for me is I ran them full tread on the C4 and they were my street/autox tire. So they got many heat cycles and miles. They lasted the full autox season and about 10K miles. They just seem to have soft sidewalls and got greasy easily once they started wearing. Never had chunking problems with them.
The other Z06 owners are all telling me to forget street tires and go back to trailering and run V710s. Not sure if I want to do that or not. But tire selection is limited in the sizes I need. The RT-615 is also an option once they come out with the 315/30-18.
