Not much of an NC turnout for one of the best events of the season this past weekend, WELL WORTH the 4 hr drive.
Fed EX field is probably the largest and best surface of any venue on the east coast with significant elevation changes thrown in to make it even more interesting, more like a single lap around a road course. The course designs were great and L O N G G G G! maybe even longer than Topeka North.
Eric and Donnie were the only other locals besides Donna and I to make the trip. The silver streak was exhibiting some rare handling problems but still managed to bring home the 3rd and 4th place CS wood with Donnie pulling out 3rd over his slower but better looking co-driver by the narrowest of margins.
Donna took the top spot in GSL in Mark Chiles's MiniS for the trophy and a nice payout from Mini. That Mini is the sleeper of the decade, not only decimating GS by 3+ sec but taking top pax again by 1.7 sec!
I still am not trusting the Miata or the new Hoosiers enough, finishing 9 out of 11, but creeping up a little closer to the trophies. I did learn some more about adjusting the new shocks (and when NOT to adjust them!) I am looking forward to the Toledo Pro this weekend.
In addition to the AX WDCR threw in a lot of perks and fun diversions: A 35 sec practice course on Fri @ 6 runs for 10.00 started out the weekend with all weekend proceeds going towards a Ron Katona memorial fund. Free BBQ dinners on Fri and Sat, Adult tricycle AX races, Poker run ( got 2 cards in sealed envelopes with registration, and another one with your time written on it for each of your Sat runs. You opened all 5 in front of the officials for your hand.). A 50-50 raffle drawing and a silent auction of nice donations rounded out the activities. Despite threatening weather that dampened the practice course on Fri and a late start due to all the club's equipment being stolen out of their bus in the storage yard Thurs nite(!!!:( ) the weekend was dry and an exemplary event was pulled off with equipment brought in from other clubs at the last minute.
