There's one thing I want to say here that is a bit off topic, but I think important. Sometimes when people disagree on the forums, or express different opinions, more gets read into those discussions than is there. If we were at a dinner table, I could slap Jim on the back laughing and say some things that just don't come across the same way in a forum.

I value Jim as a friend and I think he is one of the finest, high quality folks I know. He has helped me with my driving over the years more times than I can count. I've seen him chair events and make personal sacrifices dozens of times so that the rest of us can have fun. I've lost count of how many times his truck has been used to pull somebody out of the mud or weeds at Sanford. Several years ago, after I had some medical struggles, Jim volunteered to change my tires for the rest of the season if I needed him to. That last one blew me away. I will never, ever forget that. Those things run way, way deeper than where the man puts little orange cones on a piece of asphalt.

Jim, I apologize for the times I've griped about your courses. Yep, I've done it, and I shouldn't have. But in the overall scheme of things, where you put those little orange cones just isn't that big of a deal. There's far more important things in this world than such trivia as that. In the past, if I haven't liked those little tight courses, it's probably just because I don't have the skill to fit my pig through there as gracefully as you do.

Jim, I just wanted you and everyone else to know that I haven't lost my perspective on what really matters in this sport, or in this life. Put the cones wherever you want to.... I'll drive it, or maybe I'll just knock'em all down, but in the end it doesn't change what's really important. :)

If I was mentoring Kevin and Chris, I would have suggested moving two cones out and maybe removing the wall of cones at the sweeper.

Not likely to happen after my most recent experience with a Jim P. course at Laurinburg. :P (j/k - you've helped me fix some things sometimes when I couldn't really see what needed to be done)

I wouldn't consider myself a pro, but I have had a lot of course design experience in the past few years (most of it rallycross - where it's REALLY important to get the spacing & flow right  ), and I've learned a lot from that. Sometimes I've really screwed things up (Rockingham last year - but we did get in the gate REALLY late  ) and sometimes I think I've done pretty well (THSCC 40th). I asked for & got comments from a few people at Danville, including Eric P., and they all gave me useful feedback. I'll definitely try some things differently in the future, because that's how you learn. I think what we're talking about here is not so much making the course better, but making it perfect. That's what I try to accomplish in just about anything I do, so I promise the more you guys let me design courses the better they'll get (- on average  ).
