I never signed up to be a novice mentor, yet still had my name announced as such.

I did get some useful advice and learned a lot this weekend...Brian H.-"drive like there are gas and brake buttons"

Find an experienced driver to agree with this advice and I'll eat my hat. Brian might say that, but I guarantee he doesn't drive with full throttle or full brake through an entire course.

Both the gas and brake should be modulated. Weight transfer depends on it.

Vincent's right, but I think Brian's suggestion might have been taken out of context. I think (hope) that he meant that you either want to be on the gas or the brakes throughout the run. There should be no 'coasting' outside of when you're shifting. - AB

I was trying to point out that I tell all noobs the gas and/or brake are not "on/off switches". I was hoping Brian wasn't telling PJ that they were.

That was a communication error. Your name wasn't on the list or shouldn't have been. We will double-check the list and remove it if it is.

Since Rob and I will be doing our normal Novice Coordinator jobs the rest of the season we will only be mentioning names of people who said Yes.

.... or did I? :D

- AWD Hackfish!

Ps. You can be a lot more abrupt with your inputs on an AWD car to get it to rotate more.. or at least I do. Modulation... yes.... let the difs figure it out sometimes.. yes :D

PPs. I never 'signed up' to be a Novice Mentor, but there isnt an autoX where I am not giving someone a ride along or helping someone out. It is just what I do. However, the scope of the people I help are generally limited to AWD drivers. Woulud I be as useful for a RWD person? Heck no. We would be spinning. Some things that work in AWD cars just dont/wont work on RWD/FWD.

Oh, I let those I help know that I am not the ... smoothest driver ;) However, it is interesting you can have two different driver approach the same course with two different styles and get fast times (Marcus vs Me). It is great to have that and have a NOV ride with each of us to see the differences, and let them decide for themselves.
