Greetings all...

I bought a CG lock for the bimmer in order keep my a$$ planted in the seat during my drifting errr autocrossing. For those of you that may not know what a CG Lock is, look at http://www.cg-lock.com/ for info and how it works. This is designed for use on stock seat belts. The belt can only pass through the seat belt connector once, it can't pass back through to form a loop. Look at the web site and you'll see what I mean.

Anyway, after contacting the dealer about some issues I had with the unit I received, I now have 2 extra CG-Locks available for evaluation. If we can generate enough interest, we may be able to make a group buy and get a price break from the current $42 from the web.

It literally only takes a minute to install, so if you want to test one, let me know. Not sure how to set this up...I'll have to think how to pass it from person to person. I guess this also depends on how much interest there is in this.

If you want to give this a spin, either post back to this thread or directly to me at olds350@nc.rr.com. I'll be at the upcoming Sanford event.

see you then....

They help a lot to keep your butt planted. The Vette has a cinch feature which does the same thing. Very handy. Along those lines if you also want to keep your upper torso in place so you don't have to death grip the wheel to hang on consider a Torso Strap. About $15 for a G-Force one. It's just a 3" wide nylon strap with a snap lock and you can adjust the strap width around any seat/person.

That combination makes a good poor mans harness.

Except don't forget that the Torso Strap isn't legal (nor a good idea) for convertible cars with no roll bar...

Save $15...I broke mine in the middle of a run. They may be okay if you have a sunken chest and don't drive fast :)

Well, we know you don't have a sunken chest, so inquiring minds want to know how you broke one!

I guess I took too big a breath of air...I broke the cheap plastic latch. When you are driving on the edge, it can happen ;)

Donnie - Good point on the vert issue, I forgot about that.

Jim - Hey, I resemble that remark :moon:
You're right that plastic snap lock is cheap.

Rodney - If you or anyone wants to try it in tandem with the CG Lock I'll bring it to Sanford. I'm hoping I won't need it anymore by then.

i have been using the CG lok also. only problem i had was when i first installed it i did not get it tight enough on the plastic area of the seatbelt latch and it pulled off. however i reinstalled and it is still going strong.

however, i have dunlopp disease and i certainly can not be accussed of driving on the edge so i don't want to say it will work for everyone.

42.00 is pretty pricey when you can make your own version out of two strips of wood and two bolts.

I agree Chuck, a little pricey since you can get a G-Force latch link harness for ~$60. But for those who can't put a harness in, it is a good deal I guess.

Wasn't debating the effectiveness, just the cost vs drilling two holes in a couple of wooden sticks (paint stirrers are free...) and putting in a couple bolts and wing nuts to accomplish the same thing. Cost of homemade ~ 1.50.

How would this compare to an actual CG-Lock? I own one and used it for a while and I thought it worked pretty well. Granted, I didn't pay $42 for it, but it's a nice design.

I worked with CG-Lock to come up with a different backing plate in order for it to work with the modern Toyota clips. :) - AB

Cut two paint stirrers to 1.5" longer than the width of your belts. Stack together and drill a 1/4" hole at each end so the spacing between is a little wider than the belt width. Put a bolt and wing nut thru the holes. To use: pull your lapbelt tight, take out one bolt and loosen the other, slip both belts between the wood strips at the buckle slide, replace the bolt and tighten both nuts securely. To readjust loosen wing nut and pull belts thru. No need to remove thru the event, just unbuckle and buckle as normal.

Chuck,
Has the paint stirrer version worked well? Do you feed the belt through it twice, as in clamping the belt before and after it passes through the buckle? Or just on one side of the buckle? Cash strapped inquiring minds want to know. :)

I have been curious to try a CG Lock, but I wonder if it works much better than this....

http://www.babysupermall.com/main/produ ... 63000.html

I use one of these occasionally and they work well for me.

I also have these on one of my kids car seats...

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/st ... 78-7230265

It is best thing we have used for baby seats as you can REALLY crank that thing down and I don't know if I would want to try it on myself. ;) What it does is act like a winch. The belt threads through and you ratchet it down and it twists the belt around the center axle. To release you really need to unlatch the belt first.
