I don't want to jack my car up on gravel either, nor do I want to park freshly driven sticky tires on that stuff either.

I guess you missed that parts of the outside are paved as well :? We drive on similar at L'burg.

I took a wrong turn coming in and passed through a lot of it where the car show was.

Ryan, I think the confusion is that the entrace on Sat was via a side gate that had a large gravel/grass lot in which people had parked. I think you are saying to not use that gate but to use the gate up front that was closed off due to the car show?

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Kudos to course designers. Rumor has it that the course was liked by Miata, MR2, Honda, Toyota, and even by Corvette drivers   I loved the sweepers, all 3 of them, especially in Jim's CRX  Great Job Patrice and Art.

I would be OK pitting outside the fence as long as it is paved.

I think that Greenville is a good physics lesson.

I think that a smooth site (glass smooth) like Greenville can easily generate the same static numbers, but the sliding friction is MUCH lower.

What does that mean? Smooth drivers win!

In Laurinburg you can get the tires sliding and recover pretty quickly (because the sliding grip is still good), in Greenville, once you overdrive the tires they are done and you have to get good and slow to get them back.

Scott

I'd have to agree with this. My fastest time was made on a run where did anything BUT overdrive, and took tight lines without breaking the tires loose. The Hoosiers had MUCH better grip than I expected to get from that site - I was pleasantly surprised at the differences from last fall's event. All this, and relatively low tire wear. It took us 4 runs just to get the stickers worn off the rear tires, and then only after a nice smoky drift on the first turn around.

aaaahhh okay. i just figured that you would only reach peak G's on slaloms and not in the 180's. If your getting them in both then that makes sense. Yeah i was running street tires and i'm sure thats why it felt like such a huge difference. I simply had no speed through the 180's. If i tried to accelerate the front end would just start pushing. oh well.

I hate working the course at autox and I must tell you about it, often.

I noticed the grip felt better in the afternoon. The morning was colder and the tar was still damp. Even after all the effort put into sweeping off the puddles.

If you had R comps over street tires in the afternoon when it warmed up I think you had an advantage. Maybe not as much in the morning runs. Come August I don't think it'll be a problem get heat in the tires.

Scotts explanation of the sliding friction makes sense to me. Maybe the GEEZ does register the same later Gs while you have grip. But once you loose it you will slide that much farther and faster. I would not count Greenville and Laurinburg being equal in anything from my perspective. But I still thought the site was fun since we got to use the whole surface this time. Sure is nice and easy on tire wear

One thing to consider come August. Since that blacktop will get plenty hot from the sun. The owner uses that as a parking lot for cars going in and out of auction. That means leaking vehicles sitting on the pavement for long hours. Then it soaks in overnight. Next day during the afternoon it rises back to the surface. We may find random slick spots in the afternoon out there as the fresher oil rises back to the surface.

We need to get Mitch to come play with us in his Boxster. Mitch, park that BMW and bring the Boxster out! This will be a great year to learn to go faster.

The only way I can get close to you guys is to go to R compounds and that requires funds that I would rather put into the BMW for track events. Besides I'm having fun chasing Richard and if I can ever train this old brain that the BMW turns slower than the Boxster in a slalom and stop hitting cones I might even catch him. This could change if I need a new flywheel in the BMW. The BMW clutch is slipping and if the flywheel is also worn I will probably replace it with a light weight one which will move me out of STS. So I may see y'all in AS yet.
