Hey guys, I noticed that yall let a bunch of DS people run in Tire class. It's up to yall to recruit those folks into open class. Looks like there were 3 DS cars running Tire, that would almost double your class size.

It's not too late to have them change their minds, so get going!

I noticed that too. I wish there wasn't a TIR class. In fact, the guy who won TIR on Sunday would have beaten me in DS (with an R32).

On a similar note, I would like to challenge the "gentleman's agreement". I want to run in additional events such as divisional and pro solo events. Therefore, I am thinking of buying Victoracers. I can't afford to have 2 sets of dedicated race wheels/tires, and I am not ready to run in X class yet. I do understand the idea behind the agreement, but there probably isn't a HUGE Azenis and Victoracers. Opinions??

You see this is where the "sticky" part of the Gentelmens agreement gets tough......

Keep telling yourself that.

There isn't a huge difference between a new Azenis and a used Victoracer...

I know Rodney wants to get race tires at some point.

If yall want to dump the agreement this season, please decide soon. Sally would love to join yall.

I'm down. My wife won't be too stocked about "more car $tuff" but I'd like to go faster and maybe break top 25 in PAX for once.

Well, I think the challenge should have come a lot sooner, before we all went and prepared for this season. Maybe we can reconsider for next season. Perhaps you should go play with the X boys.

Personally I think you're a tad scared by my close miss last Sunday and are terrified that I'll trounce you next time!

:P

I agree. I just never heard for sure if the agreement was in effect. And, if enough people don't want to get rid of it, I will go to X class to keep everybody happy. However, I would like to hear some more DS opinions...

Correct the car, not the driver, right? (or is it the other way around?)

Drove my car on Bridgestone RE070's (Azenis equivalent) and then drove Jason Mauldin's car on Victoracers. There's a HUUUUGE difference in grip. I'm going to have to get some "real" R compounds sometime - it was definitely an eye-opening, "holy crap" experience.

If you don't believe it, compare your Azenis-shod car to Scott's V710-wearing car.

As far as the gentlemens agreement goes, I don't mind either way. My opinion is that the agreement was always "while most folks would agree to use Azenis there wouldn't be any firm rule saying you couldn't run stickies."

However, IMHO If you want to maintain good autocross karma, I'd run the stickies in X class. Even if both types of tire were scientifically proven to be equal, the perception that you are using "race" tires would upset some people.

If nothing else running X will get you used to what it's like to run at the next level. Running in X with some of the faster folks in the club can be intimidating but if you want to be successful at Div's and Pro's you have to push yourself to get better by running with faster people.

I'd also like to offer a proposal to you. If you want to try it before you buy it. I have an old set of Kumho Ecsta's (I think) on Type R wheels, we could co-drive your car on my tires in X class and you could get a feel for the tires yourself. Heck if you wanted to we could even swap tires mid day and contrast and compare them. Or if you don't want someone else driving your car I could rent you the tires for an event and you could see if you like them.

Shawn

You know X class is not the ONLY place you can run:

-Get a sex change and run Ladies!
-Run D Street Prepared (Good Luck)
-Run Street Mod (Charlie would have been 2nd)
-Run Street Mod 2 (Good Luck again)

This is coming from the same person that bought an extra set of rims and put Azenis on them for the THSCC TIR class. You can not have it both ways.

There is a big difference between r-compounds and street tires. When I drove the R with Azenis at VMP, I thought it was awesome. But my second thought after getting out of the car was how cool it will be with some r-compounds :)

It will take you a bit to adjust to the r-compounds. So the longer you delay, the longer the learnng curve. There probably is a ton of set up information for the ITR. So you are safe there.

I highly disagree with Shawn on the THSCC X class. It will do nothing to prep you for Div or National level competition. Nothing at all. Ask Rick and Rob about their move up the ladder last year for a fresh perspective.

The competition and driving skill there is awesome. The best prep is running with some other clubs. It gets you use to traveling to new sites, being around total strangers....plus you can run whatever tire you want with other clubs.

Do our rules for Ladies class actually state that you must be a lady to enter? Could, say, Robert Plank enter Ladies Class?
