You could run race fuel, but if you're in a stock class, you won't reap any of the benefits. So, go ahead, waste some money :)

There's lots of things you can do that don't require vacation days. All of us who act more like customers instead of club members need to remember that. It's really easy to get into an entitlement mentality and just show up run then go home. It's particularly easy when the events are a long way from home and you've got a beautiful wife to go home to (and a yard to mow and a cat to clean up after etc etc).

Here's a few things I know for a fact the club needs that won't require vacation time:

    Coding help for the web
Coding help for Mike's automatic announcer timer project
Endless projects on the van and trailer
    Other equipment maintenance things
Volunteer to drive the van to an event, particularly those who have co-drivers who can get your car to the event
People willing to fill a stable position or work on a consistent team (like timing or tech or whatever) at each event
    etc...

Believe it or not a bone stock STi can actually tune itself automatically to maximize performance for variety of parameters including fuel octane......

Or maybe I just made that up :D

Actually the STi I had was a little too aggressive and didn't learn very well when it pushed timing too far and started pinging. Mine was one of the early ones that required a reflash of the computer. :)

Sweeeet! It's kinda early to say, but are you guys thinking about incorporating the front parking lot as well?

Yeah having the finish right in the middle of the grid sounds like a good idea!

The current draft of the course incorporates a ramp so that cars will be directed OVER the grid area. :D

Seriously, I'll lobby to keep the entire course in sight of T&S, and besides, we'll need all of the parking area between the building and the fence for paddock and grid. Do you want to leave your belongings out all day in the parking area between the fence and the road? Me neither.

If I put a minimum oct rating of 100 in my car and reset/relearned the ECU I could *swear* by the butt dyno there was a difference in torque. The back end cuts loose much easier. I wish there was a dnyo locally so that I could check this out to see if there is a gain or if it's wishful thinking. My car never pinged so I did not have to get the reflash.

On my KX250, running race gas gave a noticeable difference. :0 I did Zero-to-cast in 3 seconds the first time I tried it.

SCCA Fuel Rules FYI:

3.6 FUEL
A. Stock and Street Touring Class vehicles will use service station
pump fuel only. Pump fuel is defined as that which is “Federally
approved for use on public highways.” This does not allow racing-
type fuels which are available at service station pumps.
B. Street Prepared, Street Modified, Prepared, and Modified class
vehicles may use any grade of gasoline. Gasolines consist entirely
of hydrocarbon compounds. Gasoline may contain antioxidants,
metal deactivators, corrosion inhibitors and lead alkyl compounds
such as tetraethyl lead. Oxygen and/or nitrogen bearing additives
are prohibited, except for those originally present in service station
pump fuel. Oxygen and/or nitrogen bearing oil additives are
prohibited in two-cycle engine oiling systems.

Dick (whose real race car uses 93 Octane Exxon Unleaded due to low compression and no boost)

To take this way off topic, what makes oxygenated gas found up North in the winter carry its oxygen? All I am thinking is that you could legally brew you own fuel that carries more of that and introduce more oxygen to the engine, thus gaining more power. Since we know that manufacturers use toluene to boost octane, you could run a mix of the oxygenation compound and toluene and have a high octane, power boosting gasoline that is legal, right? You are using only the additives in the pump gas...

Ethanol. If we got rid of all the cars more than 10 years old there would be no need for it.

An Idea... Get your wife involved! We do have a Chick School comming up and that way your beautiful wife can join you at the events!

I know a couple people that would be happy if you wanted to drive the Bus! Maybe then he could spend more time with his beautiful wife! :D

Just my $.02

Oh, now, lets all get happy! :P What are we at now. Six pages of posts for the first event? We haven't even talked about cheater tires, PAX or any of the other usual suspects. ;)

Graham is on vacation, so the cheater tire thread will start next event after he brings his cheater car to it

Alright, I gotta ask this. What exactly are cheater tires? It was my understanding that you could run race tires in stock classes. Is it an old school argument that stock = stock parts only? Or am I missing something?
How about race fuel...is that OK? :)

Cheater tires were what the people who owned large V8 powered plastic vehicles couldn't get because they didn't come in their size. They are the street tires that were rated low for treadwear, specifically, the Falken Azenis. There is a whole thread(s) in the past about cheater tires with people whining about them

The "cheating" aspect is more on Falken than the people (like myself) who use them. Falken stamped a TWR of 200 on a tire that is probably about 100 or less in reality. However since there is no real standard, techically Falken isn't cheating either.

The way I understand it Kumho could stamp 200 on the V700's (thye are currently stamped 50 IIRC) and they would magically fall under the heading of "street" tires too.
