Yeah really you have to come to the step up or shut up point in the club.

Take it from the person who has complained, most vocally, all of the past 2 yrs about anything and everything. I look at it as a talent, others don't. I stepped up last year, in a small way, as Worker Coordinator and in the last 2 yrs have co chaired 3 events. After dooing all that I bicth much less now and ask less vague questions.

You should do the same

I just dont have the time to help setup and event. Everything that THSCC does is 2.5 hours from where I live, and it takes me about 45 mins to get to the monthly meetings when I come.

This is not a all out reason for me not wanting to do it, but it is a major consideration. I know that some people come from much further, but I dont see me having enough time in MY schedule to do all of that. I would be all over it, but I would rather not put a strain on what is already a tenuous schedule for me and my home life anyway.

If that means not speaking out or just bringing up points on the board anymore, I guess I will just stop posting my opinions and just be a silent member who just comes to events then.

Ryan and Vincent drive 4+ hours to Sanford and Laurinburg events. They made time to be VP's.

I'll leave it at that.

Yeah having the finish right in the middle of the grid sounds like a good idea!

You caught me, it was a scam for someone to "take out" my ITR so I could step up to an STI. I think State Farm could cover it.

No seriously though, I heard/read something about possibly griding outside of the fence or something. Then again, I thought the last course there was rad. It it ain't broke...

Actually it takes me:

2.5 hrs to L'burg no stops 75 mph (NC71 rocks it used to take 3hrs)
2.5 hrs to Sanford
2 hrs to Golden Corral
45 mins to work
17 mins to Dealers Auto Auction :woo:

I wonder why my 02 Explorer has 134,000 miles :?: I drive alot, I also enjoy the club alot. I just deal with it.

I stay pretty busy, too, but I drove down to Laurinburg, back home, then back the next day & back home for the setup day & Test n Tune a few weeks ago. 3 hr round trip. Used at least $40 worth of gas that weekend, just in the WRX. Christine drove down separately in the FXT on Sunday to cook. If you're dedicated enough (or if you like to get fun runs on setup day :D ), then you just do it. If other things take priority, that's perfectly fine. But if you're going to be really vocal about things all the time, you should volunteer to implement some of those ideas, or at least volunteer for something so that you can take some responsibility off of somebody else who might be able to implement your ideas. It's really not that hard, and hanging out with the other people who are involved makes it a lot of fun.

Not picking on you, just sharing my viewpoint.

The company that I work for has this novel concept called "vacation days". You see, I can tell my boss ahead of time that I would like a day off and -- guess what happens next -- you don't have to work that day! Woo hoo!

What he said.

Mike Dishman told me a few years back that he didn't "hear" complaints from people who just showed up, ran, and went home.

Mike W. has put TONS of hours into the new bus and trailer. I doubt he's not taking "suggestions" from people who won't volunteer to help make them a reality.

Bottom line...if you don't like the way things are, pitch in and lend a hand to help change them. If can't or won't help then...

Fair enough. But I am not saying what I said as 'complaints'. I know not to 'complain'. I didnt see anything BAD at the event to complain about.

Anyway.... enough of this conversation for me.

Things you can do to help out that are easy but make a difference:

-Show up early on event day, if the course hasnt been marked grab some chalk and have at it, help unpack the bus, setup the timer/display/wireless PA.

-Stay late and help pick up cones, pack the bus/trailer, pick up trash

-Even the small projects help goes a long way. Offer to print paper numbers (especially if you use them)

I am sure that there are more "little things" that would go a long way.

Note, this is NOT directed at any ONE person, this is directed at EVERYONE.

- Sweep the course
- Sweep out the bus and trailer
- Learn how to pack the bus and help out
- Bring donuts to registration, give to registrars and T&S

- Recruit friends, family, volunteers to write times on post-its at the finish
- Go the the AXWare website and read everything about iCard and possibility of remote display of times
- Learn VBScript and help me write the time auto-reader :)

And so on and so on...

Holy cow why is every one jumping on Brian? Are questions not allowed after events? I did not see any where in his first post where he was complaining, he asked about the shortness of the course compared to most l-burg courses and that seems like a legitimate questions and it was answered, so the rule is now if you don't help you can't question? Brian seems to be very enthusiastic an want to help out the club when he can, not everyone can take vacation to days to do events or spend whole weekends at events I think some of you should be a little more understanding that not everyone can or has the time to give all to the club, and jumping on because he cannot is a quick way to dampen someones enthusiasm.

I figure I just need to grow a thicker skin and become more of an "elitest bastard". :D

Thanks for the backup -- I appreciate it. I try to help in these events where I can, and I have been after events helping pick up cones and what not. I am just trying to get this 'home ownership' thing under control first.

I do take everything that everyone here has said into consideration though. Just put it this way -- I would help out, but I don't think MEMEBERS would be as enthusiastic about things as I would.

When I feel like I would not get JUMPED on about thing and I feel more APART of the club, and less a 'thorn in it's side', I will be more willing to voulenteer my time as well.

Until then, I will just work on my driving and improving that.

Ps. If I had a 'miatar' instead of an STi, I think people would like me more ;)

That is just not true and everyone here but you knows it. Jesus Christ if I had $1 for every backhanded crack at a freakin' Miata I would make Mark Cuban look like a bum.

You have an STi, we know that, its fast, it doesnt drive itself.
