my observation regards course work. purple chalk is not easy to see in any way, and i found the yellow only slightly better. have you all experimented with various colors? my sunglasses only make it worse so maybe i need a visit to the eye doctor.

We used to paint but now are trying to avoid that to keep site owners happy. This is an ongoing improvvement thing, stay tuned... :)

Regarding getting times out to the public....

AXWare apparently supports iCard. For those that are not familiar with iCard it works with a GameBoy and receives times that are broadcast by the scoring software. It is used by Grand Am at all their races and I think the SCCA and maybe NASA uses it also.

If someone wants to DONATE the time and *money* to get this set up, I'm sure that the club would be grateful. ;)

More thoughts about the event.

1. As a reformed Miata driver, I loved the course. It seemed pretty OPEN to me. Now if I was driving the Mustang, I would be bitching about how tight it was. Great course Jim and Rick.

2. Scoring went ALOT better than I expected. I had nightmares of the whole thing crashing and everybody point at me. Thank God that didn't happen.

3. The scoring team ROCKS. You should all be able to take 2 seconds off your fast time for the great work you do!! Thanks everyone.

4. I really liked having the FM transmitter working. All I had to do was hit the power button on my radio after I crossed the line to get my times.

5. Trying to chase down the wicked fast drivers in STT with 4 year old BFGoodrocks doesn't work. Hopefully Falken will get my Azenis to Mark Cooper soon!!!!!!!!

6. Miatas are WAY fun to drive. They actually turn when you want them to. Unlike the Ford F-150 Mustang I drove last year.

7. Thanks to everyone for not running over my kids!!!!!

I think I rambled on long enough.

Hmm Unless I am missing something I don't think Kevin and Brian are saying "dooode why wern;t we running the p.... its loike the bomb..." I think they were truley just woundering why the course was shorter a lot of l-burg course's in the past espically when some of the other places we go we are limited by space for course length. I would have like maybe a 60 sec course this weekend, but thats just me and I probably would not have had the tire to do it anyway :). Jim and Rick ran an excellent school and event and Kudo's should go to all the new regime on how everything worked out.

I had a blast this weekend and it was good to see everyone, I enjoyed announcing however, the Speakers on the bus seemed to have been annoying to the workers in the bus, I belive Mike told me that was because of the Temprary fix for the Emergency Exit and that was why it was so loud in the bus, espically when you have someone like me who will ramble :).
C-Yall at the next event.

First time running in an autox and I was surprised. A little dissapointed, but at the same time close to overwhelmed with the amount of effort it takes for one of these to get run. Helping with the rallyx is no picnic, but it appeared to me that they are easier to set up than an autox. And seeing as how this was apparently one of the smaller courses, I can only imagine what it takes for a longer course. I did have a lot of fun, honestly I did, even though I couldn't push the car to hard because of horrible tires for the track (hopefully that will be remedied soon :D ). That was my only real complaint, and it had nothing to do with the course, just my car. After I finally found the perfect balance between the course and what my car could do, I did fairly well (for a noob  )

Like I mentioned about the school, I really appreciate what you all did and was very glad to have been able to participate in this.

I will only make it to 1 maybe 2 more autox's, not because of this event, but because of the tire situation. I started looking into what I'm going to try and get to run and now just have to make my final decision. After my next event, I will make a permanent decision about where my racing days will take me. 8)

Dude, you so need to be an event chair! A man with "constructive criticism" so freely offered needs to try being on the other end of it. Don't feel singled out- this is actually a long-time Tarheel tradition. And you don't need to know anything about course design- that would be left to your more experienced co-chair. Still there is plenty left for you to do. Come put your actions where your typing fingers are!

Excellent event, good jobs. Course was fun and challenging. Nice to have something different a Laurinburg, no 3rd gear, wow. I'm happy with my FTD and 4th place Pax.
Next event is Greenville some announcements coming soon concerning this event.

I got my griping to Jim over with during the walkthroughs Sunday morning. And while I still contest his delusion that the section of course from the 2nd slalom to the last right-hander was a "straight", when I ran the course, it was enjoyable. Even that "great salami" turn (Sonya Rouse's term, not mine) was faster than I expected once I got it set up right. If I had stuck around to help Jim with the set-up Saturday evening, I would have suggested picking up up one or two gates to stretch the course out. Of course, that would have probably given Randy Melton enough leeway to beat me, street tires and all, so let's just say it was OK.

Ryan can buy a walkman. I left my radio on during my runs, and except for the announcers using terms like "classic", "old school" and "glue factory" while I was at the starting line, leaving the radio on during my runs was not a distraction. At least Ron Spencer wasn't there whinnying into the microphone. (If you haven't had the announcer shout "WHOA!" right as you leave the line, then ridicule you for stopping, you haven't been angry.)

Starting line -- I've been autocrossing for .. a while, and I have never found enough grip at the start line anywhere to launch at more than 2500 RPM. However, Sunday's start line was awesome. Just like the Mustang magazines say -- 3500 RPM, dump the clutch.. and who needs launch control?

Patrice and I will come up a course design for Greenville that will more than satisfy all of your autocrossing needs and aspirations. If after that event you feel that some aspect of the event could have been handled better, please come see us so that we can tell you just how horribly wrong you are

I have an idea - let's create a new email address "complaints@thscc.com". Every month at the meeting we will announce the "Hole of the month" - that person who did the most whining and the least about it, and have complaints@thscc.com forward to him directly.

It'll only be for a month, and it's a position that is sorely needed.

I hope this isn't a jab at me as I am not TRYING to complain about the event. On the whole, I thought it was a well organized and well executed event.

I just had some questions I didn't know the reasoning behind, and I was just looking for some input.

Anyway....

I have a sneaking suspicion who is leading the initial nominations ...

Sweeeet! It's kinda early to say, but are you guys thinking about incorporating the front parking lot as well?

Yeah having the finish right in the middle of the grid sounds like a good idea!
