How is the gas mileage for an STi?

I get 16.0-16.5 mpg w/mine as a daily driver (Cary to RTP, mostly on I-40).

Also, the salesman said that it was not possible to get a factory service manual so I could perform my own maintanance; is this true?

Sounds like Donnie's got you covered on the service manual. Otherwise, you can buy a copy of the Subaru factory service manual CD for STi on eBay. I haven't seen them posted yet for the '05 model, but the '04 CDs are as low as $2 plus shipping.

An update. I've got three copies of the service manual on DVD. Two problems...one, I was too lazy to "fix" the index files. It seems that whoever put it up for download let *something* mangle the filenames (it wasn't me, I swear) and they don't match what the HTML is trying to access. It's still usable, but you do have to do a bit more clicking around to find what you need. But hey, it's free. :)

The bigger problem is I can no longer make the autocross this weekend. Argh. I had promised to bring some tires for Dustin to use and I haven't heard back on whether he wants them bad enough to come get them from me this week instead. I'm way out in BFE so it's a pain for me to get stuff to other club folks (I'm outside CH by about twenty minutes and Raleigh/Cary/Durham folks will have to go *through* CH to get to me). So assuming he wants to come get the tires I can send the DVDs with him. If not, well, maybe I can work something else out.

Of course, if any of you want to volunteer to come pick up the DVDs, that would be great. Extra points if you can take the tires to Dustin. :)

Thanks for all of the info. I'll probably hang on the Type R for a while. They will only get more rare, so I probably won't lose anything when / if I do sell it.

Any word on the next gen. STi?

I nominate Brian to pick them up and bring them to the event. 8) Sorry you cannot make it and thanks for taking the time to make the CD's.

We will see. I know where he lives on his Ranch within a ranch... but I dont know if I will have time to do it this week. We will see.

All information on the 06 STi is still speculation.

Nothing is confirmed, but Subaru has already announced that the whole product line is moving towards the B9 Tribeca front fascia that they designed for the STi in 04 that everyone hated... can you say Alfa Romeo?

I didn't believe that it was possible for Subaru to engineer any more ugliness into their cars. I was wrong.

Just give them some time. They are going to incorporate that into all of their cars.

That front facia stems from a concept car. I can't belive they actually got enough positive responses from consumers to put it into production.

Donnie, no problem, I should be able to come get the tires and DVD's some night this week, and get the stuff to the event on Sat. I'll pm with details.

Thanks again!
