The work day went well. Rick Butters, Les Davis, Jason Mauldin and I made the trip (from Raleigh, Raleigh, Cary and Durham respectively).
They had 5 people at one point, from Alabama, Pennsylvania, Deleware and Georgia.
By the end of the day, it was 2 of them and 4 of us.
We put down abot 12 bags of concrete, and probably moved about that much debris off of the course.
To prep the holes, you scrape and blow out anything loose, wet it a little bit then put the concrete in. They have a few back-pack style blowers that are far superior to anything we had out there for the test and tune.
The most interesting thing I noticed was how good some of the laurinburg concrete really is. We tend to use what's clean, and that means we are using the ECTA areas. They sweep it every event of the year, and they also put down weed killer, not to mention the patching.
As it turns out the 3 or 4 slabs of concrete along the outer length of the main runway are almost all in good shape. I just assumed they were bad because we never run on them much. We don't run there becase the ECTA doesn't maintain them (so it seems). Everytime they sweep they put all teh rocks to that side, and it gets overgrown because they don't spray for weeds there. With a little bit of work on our part we could easily be using the full width of the main runway, for nearly the full length of it.
There is one big hole that limits access to this good concrete via the crossover at the end of the runway. If we patch that hole we can run a much wider radius sweeper

If we have enough people volunteering next weekend, we should be able to use the ECTA mixer for our own concrete to fix that oen spot (probably 3 bags - it's a big spot).
I'm planning to rent a sweeper in the near future to clean up some extra area. We might also want to spray a little weed killer in a few spots.
