When you learn, can you teach Brad? His braking technique helped me to understand why they make wheels round instead of square.

BTW, I do have ABS, and yes it is nice. 8)

I was trying real hard to get the pivot cone right but never did. I was usually very close to the cone, but I kept braking too early & coasting, then exiting too slowly or pointing in the wrong direction. Tried it in 1st gear & second gear & ran the same times (actually just a couple of tenths slower in 2nd). 1st gear I spun the inside tire too easily coming out, 2nd gear there was lag & I never did find the right spot to get on the gas early. Was going to try out lfb, but decided to go do some drifting in the P instead. :D

Rick, were you on street tires or R compounds?

on the discovery of Jim P's leak:

Brad Mackey: Wow this is cool, I wonder where the leak is coming from.

Wes: There's oil out on course.
Chris B: No...it's not oil, it tranny fluid
Wes: umm, yea Chris, that's oil.

Jim: After the first turn i smelled something, <shrugging sholders>but i just figured it was that BMW in front of me.</shrugging sholders>

I thought that when he said that he was kidding, but then after the above, apparently he literally meant "Sandbag". He still beat my time even though he was having to pedal through half the course. :banghead:

We had a really good time, it was nice to find out our miata still has some potential and we hadn't completely forgotten how to drive a RWD. I was glad we did the elements in the AM, my timing was way off, the Miata turns so much quicker than the Celi. The only minor criticism I might make was that would have been better had 2 drivers been able to run together more, we couldn't really do any tuning when one was working while the other was driving.
I too would like to see more pure timed T&T sessions thru the season, that's one of the things that would have the biggest benefit. The big course was good practice, but I would have like to see the timer used on the sweeper element and the slalom to have been done without a pivot cone, with the full day devoted to just those elements (and a traction circle set up for those who wanted to use it) so you could feel like you had time to make significant changes and still be able to make several runs to test the effectiveness of each change. An hour to cover three elements just didn't give that luxury.

Thanks and Kudos to all that made yesterday possible. It was great fun, with lots of seat time to help knock the rust off. I agree with Chuck that it would be a wonderfully beneficial thing to have another TNT during the year that did concentrate on the elements and allow more time for changes and adjustments to the cars.
Overall a great event, thanks again!

A special thanks to those who cleaned up after mister two :) It was a lot of fun right up to the point of Chris asking if you normally see gears.

At the slalom section the only time that I looked up at the timer, I had a 27.6 after coming through the finish sideways. Errr....maybe it was a 26.7, I don't remember for sure I just remember watching Mr. Whitney right before and thinking that I was 1.5 off of his run, which seemed pretty good for me, especially after scaring myself. :D

Geez I forgot how tight the miata turns, I think I could've reached out and adjusted the pivot cone each time.

Thanks for all the hard work everyone!

I had a great time, but didn't get any photos of anything the whole weekend (which was kinda nice for a change  ).

Did a lot of high-speed drifting "fun runs" on the full course & in the P. Enjoyed watching Jason Mauldin & Brian Herring doing the same. Had a few runs where I had to rallycross during. :D

The wagon was awesome in the slalom, and the acceleration at each end was enough to get Dan by almost a second (unless he got faster when I wasn't watching). Did anybody beat a 26.4 without DNFing or hitting a cone, and if so what were you driving?

I love the WRX wagon, and don't miss the 2.5RS AT ALL - EVER.

Thanks again to Rodney Wright & Colony Tire in Apex for my free RA-1's - it was nice not worrying about tire wear at Laurinburg. :D These things are ready to be flipped...

Yea, I went back and ran a 25.4 when Stacy finished all her runs and I was up there. It was a clean run this time, btw. I think the two workers who worked last in the afternoon can verify that.

I think if there was someone smooth behind the wheel, we would be seeing mid-24s out of my car in that slalom.

Oh, thanks to Randy Melton for taking me on a ride in his Cobra. THAT guy can drive and that was a GREAT experience. IF I am faster than him this year, it sure as heck isn't because I am a better driver. :D

It was a GREAT event, and hopefully, we will have more drift.... err.. "Test and Tunes" in the future.

How about taking the CENTER of the area where the 'pits' were, and make that another 'Element'.

EDIT: Yes, and let's thank those who have cooked food and taken on that activity. That has made the THSCC experience TERRIFIC!!! AutoXes have been AWESOME with that addition. Let us know if there is ANYTHING we can do to make your lives easier!!!

While we're thanking folks for all the work for the T&T, we definitely don't want to leave Christine & her extremely efficient bag lunches out! Christine, you rock!

Results are up. When viewing these realize that you and your competitors may have someone else's time or there may be cones/DNFs that were not included.

We were testing new timing and scoring software and auditing the results were not a priority.

Nice tight groupings in AS, BS, CS and GS.

What does the 'lag time' on the pax sheet indicate?

Thanks for getting the results up.

Those are some pretty cool looking results pages. Did AXware spit those out like that, or was some editing required?

The formatting is the default AXWare format. I think they can be editted with style sheets.

That was a fun event. Now if we could actually make it long enough (2, maybe 3 days) so that we could make really interesting changes, it would be great. If you determine that you have a problem in a 1 hour session, you really can't fix it if it involves more than turning a knob or changing tire pressures. I think the real value of the event (besides entertainment), was dusting off the cobwebs and getting seat time. Oh, and finishing off last season's tires. The "braking" area before the pivot on the slalom drill was perfect for that.

Next time we need to enforce the schedule. A coworker of mine who attended the event tore into me today about the 4th heat drivers on the P segment who would not stop driving after an hour and 25 minutes. He finally just walked off the course. (Les and I did the same thing in the 1st heat).

It was great to see Ed Gelston and Dick Rasmussen. I understand that Dick might have signed up to co-drive a certain stock category car this year. Graham is not going to like that :). Ed Gelston was driving the red ESP 39 Camaro. For those who don't know him, EG used to be an A/X VP and also site search coordinator. He's the one who originally secured the Laurinburg site for us.
