I had a great time today and just wanted to take a moment to thank the behind-the-scenes workers who helped make this event happen.

Miles & Graham, for putting together an action packed day and several courses that were A WHOLE LOTTA fun! Dustin drove the bus to the event, helped with setup, did Annual Tech on about 80 cars and drove the bus back home. Tonya and Malia for doing a great job with registration. Stephen Westerfield did worker coordination even though his car was broken back at home. Gordon setup timing on two different courses, and Christine for cooking for us all.

Also, due to the efforts of Mike Whitney and Rob Harvey, we had a really strong radio signal to listen to our announcers on our car radios.

There were lots of people who came down and also helped with setup on Saturday. Hopefully, Miles will have a list, because I'll never get everyone. :)

Sorry if I missed anyone, my memory sucks.

Wow...what a great set-up!! By far, the most fun I've had at an event. Outstanding all around, so a big THANKS to everyone in front of and behind the scenes..great job!

It was a really great Test and Tune. I know that Stacy and I appreciate all those who did go out and work, along with all the 'THSCC setup' crew that made the event happen.

There is always a good setup at every event and top class drivers with great personalities that always makes it wonderful.

The 'Elements' section was a double edged sword -- fun to have a 'free for all', but then, it was a free for all.

Great event. Stacy and I both agreed that we wish there was one half-way through the year for those that want to see where their cars are with major tweaks they needed to make mid-season.

Great event guys!

Ps. Red flag!!! :)

I will have to apologize for this...I feel partly responsible. I arrived to the elements section slightly late to do work coordinating in the afternoon....after the free for all started. I appreciate everyone working with me though to get workers out there and get the situation back under control. Seems like things were a little better after we got workers out to the stations.

I was back and forth between the full course and the elements all day and it seems like we had the site set up pretty well. My only suggestion would be if we decide on a similar format in the future....set the slalom up just before the cross over (where we usually grid at a regular event) and that might allow a better flow of cars between stations. As it was, we had to interrupt the sweeper and/or slalom to get people back to the skid pad. I am guessing we set it up like we did due to quality of concrete...in which case, maybe my suggestion wasn't possible.

Great event everyone. Thanks to all of those that made it happen. Also thanks to Jason and Vincent for bumming me rides while my car was out of commission.

I certainly had a great time. The elements were a lot of fun, as well as providing an opportunity to try different things to see what works best in the basics (at least for a non-pro like me!) The full course was certainly a hike for the workers, but it was fun to have a fast, wide-out course to play on. I think a format like this would work well for a novice school (with enough instructors, obviously).

Oh, and having the radio announcing times was genius. Kudos to everyone who put this great event on!

Yea, I feel like the only problem was that people got 'stuck' in areas, and you had to 'interrupt' someone to get 'out' of a section. The skidpad was good thought, but there were very few people who took advantage of it. It would be nice to have that as an 'aside' area near the paddok for anyone doing any REAL test and tune activites to have close at hand.

For me, I didnt want to lug a 13mm, socket, torque wrench and jack to ALL the way over there to get the real benifit out of what I wanted to change and test.

Overall, it was a great event. I think that some of the bantering before hand proved to be less boisterous and more truth than they really thought ;)

No offense taken :)

Thanks to the event chairs for a really good event! I liked the mix of the practice elements and the full course. Being able to work on some fundamentals and get more familiar with a relatively new car was a huge help. Plus, it allowed my co-driver (Donnie) to give me a lot of much needed help & feedback while swapping ride alongs...getting that type of coaching is hard to get during a regular event.

Also, to the course designers...you guys did a great job!!! The course was technical, challenging, but very fun! Thanks!

Eric

Seems like a lot more people used it in the morning group...not so much interest in the afternoon. :whoknows: Go figure.

I know for me, there were quite a few reasons why I didnt use it.

- It was Cold. It was in the back corner. I had to go through everyone to get to it.

- I had already run the first 'full course' in the morning, so I already had done my adjustments there.

- I didnt have a stop watch or timing equipment there to see if I was gaining lateral Gs.

- As far as seat of the pants, I had already done that on course and the timed slalom.

Overall, I felt like it was a good tool that was TOO far out of reach, and something that could be tested with other 'fun' elements.

For me, the morning was the 'work' where I ran an event, and the afternoon, was where I was just 'playing' and trying different things.

It was a great event overall, and we both sincerely enjoyed it!

Thanks once again!

Great idea. We'll have to talk about that one (of course it's stinking hot mid season).

I've got an idea for another limited entry event in Laurinburg.

Well a few people in the afternoon group were using the skidpad for drift practice...

I made about 3 laps each way to get a feel for the basic balance of my car in such a tight turn. It understeers. Go figure. It's too bad there isn't a larger stretch of pavement to make a 200-300 foot skidpad. Then it would be a GREAT tuning tool. I think the tight steering needed for a 100' skidpad screws up the suspension geometry too much to make it of much worth.

The slalom practice section now, that ROCKED. With the transition-intensive courses Tarheel has to run (thanks to being mostly on runways) it's super important to be good a slaloms. Dan E. was showing the STS2 folks how it was done. Most impressive.

Thanks everyone,
--Kevin H.

some funny conversations i heard and took part in this weekend:

on the discovery of Jim P's leak:

Brad Mackey: Wow this is cool, I wonder where the leak is coming from.
Chris Brown: I've never looked under a Toyota before, but are you supposed to be able to see the gears?

Wes: There's oil out on course.
Chris B: No...it's not oil, it tranny fluid
Wes: umm, yea Chris, that's oil.

Jim: After the first turn i smelled something, <shrugging sholders>but i just figured it was that BMW in front of me.</shrugging sholders>

Great to finally have some RACING stuff to talk about. There has been a great deal of change in the club since the last autox of last year, but things ran pretty much as usual as always.

Big thanks to Mike Whitney on the bus, it ROCKS!!!!

BIG thanks to Miles and Graham for a sucessfull TNT.

BIG thanks to everyone at the event for keeping it safe and FUN!!

There were a few glitches, but nothing that cant be worked out. The layout was a bit awkward but worth it from the way it sounds. I personally like using the section of concrete by the Golden Knights canopy. Gives L'burg some variety.

My car didnt make a whole bunch of runs due to a decent sized oil leak but I think I got a good feel for the car, and the car got me home, so I have to call it a personal sucess as well. I do see that STS2 is gonna be a dog fight once we get new tires on the CRX. :) SLOW DOWN DAN!!!

Bear with us on results, we used a new T&S system and it may take a little bit to get that data on the net.
