But seriously, we're going to have some fast drivers in STT this year, and I really think that STT will be faster EVENTUALLY -- once everybody gets used to their cars. Until then, Aaron in STS & Keith in STX should be putting the hurt on us.

But... the WRX wagon was only around a second off Courtney Cormier & 1.5 off Mike Johnson, who were both driving Rod McGeorge's ESP STi on STU tires, up at VMP in December. The wagon was (& still is) on stock suspension, except for a slightly bigger rear anti-roll bar. Completely stock engine/drivetrain. It's pretty damn fast. :D

If I run the WRX, though, I think it's going to be in ESP.

I don't think I'll be in STS anymore. After toasting the motor, I'm going to bring it back to stock as a daily driver and find something more dual purpose track/autocross. - AB

I'd be looking for Aaron in X class in a DS car shortly. Afterall, that car will probably have his shocks on it :)

I've seen this movie. It doesn't end well.

Edit to be on topic:
I'm aiming for not DFL. But seriously, there's a metric sh*t ton of talent in STT and it should make for a continuation of the "learning" experience I had in ES last year.

I wonder when the last time Kevin drove a 2WD? In anger?
(FWD doesn't count.)

Will there be timing at the T&T?

I'm not sure what I'm driving.
Maybe an ITR in DS.
Or half-assed STX prepped 330.

Yes, in some capacity.

My wife used to own a 2003 Civic EX - every time I had to drive that POS, I was angry.

I saw the news about your VIR experience, Aaron, but I was hoping you'd put the car back together & keep running STS. It was a really entertaining car, and actually made autox fun to watch. :D

Now about the dual-purpose track/ autox car... I still have a 2.5RS for sale. 8)

There will be timing for all elements. When you pass the 1st cone you go 1001, 1002, 1003 and so on

We're are hoping to have timing for the course and one of the element areas.

Graham

I guess I can update you on my situation. I pulled the splash panel and it became apparent what went wrong immediately when I saw the connecting rod hanging out of the gash it made in the oil pan. After removing the pan, I can see that the #4 connecting rod shattered, more than likely due to oil starve and really high cylinder temps.

I spoke with TRD about a new short block (I need to pull the head and hope that it's still ok) and while I was talking with them, they stated that in 2000 when they ran the current gen Celica's on track, they could get about 3 hours of track time out of them prior to the engine going South. Oil starve is very common on these engines when the g-load is high on left handers. They corrected this problem by installing an 2 quart accusump in all of the cars in 2001, and all of them made it through the season with perfect internals after they were torn down.

Only if I knew that a $169 Accusump could have save my engine prior to hitting VIR Full ;)

Thus, I'm going to install a new engine, buy an accusump and install it as well. It currently isn't STS/X legal, but I will try to get a new ruling approved, for there is that allowance within the SP rules for acusumps, oil coolers, etc.. Hopefully I can get that to go through.

As for track, I am going to buy an inexpensive track car that I can do HPDE's in. Probably something like a Civic/CRX or the like. If you have leads on cars, let me know **cough** Bowie Jr. **cough** - AB

Well Aaron there is that "1988 Honda Civic LX - Rallycross Beater" that you own. It could make a nice track car, no?

Or you could join the dark side and buy Kevin Allen's silver RS.

My Civic is an LX 4 door. Certainly not the ideal track whore that I would want. My rally beater is going on the market shortly, inexpensively I might add. It would make a nice daily driver for someone, especially considering it gets 35mpg around town.

I'm thinking CRX Si/Civic Si, E30 325, or the like. No Subaru's for me. I've never been a big AWD kind of guy, for one reason or another. - AB

If you can scrape together the extra dough, I think you'd be better served by an E36 325is. More durable and less quirky than an E30. Oh, and btw, the E30 will need the 'sump too, the E36 doesn't seem to need one.

Reading your post gave me some déjà vu. Same problem in LH corners - not from oil sloshing, but rather high RPM causing the oil to stay pumped up in the head. Fortunately for me, I caught it early and just had spun rod bearings. I'd be curious to see what your rod bearings look like.

I'll take some pictures of them when I rip apart the lower end. My guess is that they are completely shot and contributed to the failure. This is not uncommon with the Celica GT's as well, as Rick Cone found out about a year and half ago.

As for the BMW's, yes, the e36 would be ideal. Probably more money than I want to spend, but it would be fun. I'm exploring my options for I'm in no hurry. - AB
