And he's not bad as an Evolution instructor either. I've had him twice and couldn't ask for better instruction.

Tim rocks. I'm not sure he'll be doing a lot of SoloII this year now that he owns a Spec Miata, but he's long overdue for something like this. - AB

Tim was Chuck's very first instructor at his first autox school and showed him how great a sport it can be. It was because of his enthusiasm that day that we became involved.

A great guy, truly. The perfect choice.

He's a fierce competitor. To watch him make a run... it's like a work of art, and to ride with him is like skating on ice in a car.

I hear that he's the most requested Evo instuctor, both by the students and by the other Evo instructors as co-instructor. Doesn't surprise me one bit. :D

We've had many walkthroughs at events together and he ALWAYS has another viewpoint that can enhance a performance, always has something to give and yet everytime he says to me..."Now that's just what I was thinking, what do you think? Is that what you were thinking too?"
Always thinking, teaching and absorbing... and smiling. :) And you better be able to keep up!

I hate to rain on everyone's Tim Aro is a great guy parade, but I feel an obligation to share some painful truth's about him that will likely make some of you reconsider your view of Tim as a "great guy" or at least make you violently ill. I think these two stories will tell you all you need to know about his character:

1) When we were co-driving at the Pennsylvania State Championships at Harrisburg in 2000, he forgot to bleed my tire pressure down between my 2nd & 3rd runs.

2) Another time, in Danville, he borrowed $20 from me so he could put enough gas in his car to make it home. Did he really need gas money or was he actually using that as a ploy to earn interest on *my* money until that tightwad finally paid me back - TWO WEEKS LATER!

While unmasking the real Tim Aro (i.e., as the incredible low life loser that he is) has been a distasteful task, I feel certain that this has proved to be an invaluable service to all of humanity and was something that likely should have been done a long time ago.

Just in case the "mountain" of evidence provided above is not enough to convince you that Tim is a horrible person, then you'll want to buy my new book that is coming out next week: "Bad Stuff About Tim Aro." It's the unauthorized story that recounts my two years of co-driving hell with this guy. If you think the stories above are bad, you haven't even seen bad. Please feel free to order advanced copies of the book at www.badstuffabouttimaro.com

Sincerely,

Anonymous

Oh, come on!! I fully expected that URL to work! ;)

Ok, I have only met Tim once, but I have an embarrassing story to tell...

It was I think last year (or year before) that he instructed at one of the THSCC Autocross schools. It was early in the day and I think he may have been my first instructor. So he jumps in my car, introduces himself and off we go. There were different sections setup and the section we were in was offset gates.

So of course I know who he is and while we are supposed to be just working on the concept and not trying to “set a fast time”, and I am telling myself “take it easy, listen to what he is saying and try to do as he says”. But some other internal demon took over and decided “I can’t let Tim see that I am slow”. So I proceed to totally blow the segment. I am not doing it right at all, trying to go faster than you should in the wrong places, totally wrong apex on the cones and end up getting totally out of shape and eventually miss a gate. Frankly I was so embarrassed that I can’t even remember exactly what he said when we came to a stop. But I think he was saying in a nice way “that was not how it is done”. I felt about 1 inch tall. Not because of Tim’s feedback, but because I acted like such a newbie for about 10 seconds.

I guess I had wanted him to walk away thinking "that guy has some raw talent". It probably was more like "what a goober".

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.
