The subject says it all.

Where is the best (cheapest) place to buy Azenis?

I need them for the Miata.

Also, any word on when the RT-615s will be available? I'd hate to buy the 215 at full price only to have the 615 come out a few weeks later.

I buy mine from EdgeRacing.com Their prices are usually a few dollars cheaper than Vulcan tire, and the tires arrive here within 3 days.

Or from club sponsor Hubcap Heaven and Wheels. Support these local shops who have to battle national mega-retailers or they will wither away.

Everyone I've talked to says you won't see any 615's until mid to late summer, which means no dice for the 2005 National ST* scene. They need to have 5 different sizes out prior to the end of August to be legal for the SCCA. - AB

Didn't know there was an eligible tire rule in STS? Thought it was any DOT tire >certain wear rating (140?).

See, I just got a chance to use the PDF version of the 2005 rules for the first time. As I read it, Chuck is right.

Paraphrasing here...

14.3.A 225 width
14.3.B >= 140 treadwear
14.3.C Does not have to follow the 13.3.F rules (4 diameters and 6 sizes)
14.3.D Not listed on exclusion list (currently only the Pirelli P Zero Corsa)

Of course they COULD add them to the exclusion list for 2005 at any time. If availability is an issue, this might be the fair thing to do.

Gee, I thought the whole idea of a "Street Tire" class was being able to run just about any non R tire and that it really wasn't important to have the latest and greatest or whatever "Street Tire". Run what you have and still be able to win. None of that pesky "got to have the right latest and greatest tire" that is such a problem in the R tire classes.

Actually, the tire choices in S and SP are a lot easier than STS choices. You either run the V700 or the S04. I guess they think we are a lot slower and can only process two possible choices

Maybe the concept of the Tarheels TIR class that was supposed to be true about run what you brung street tires. But that has been proven to favor people with the 'right' tires. The STxx classes allow more car prep and tires is a big part of that. Take 2 equal STS cars and drivers. One shows up on Azenis and one shows up General all weather 400+ wear rated tires. Who would you put your money on?

With the R comps like Jim said. The choice is pretty easy. Victoracers or Hoosiers. Other R comps just aren't the best choice for autox, they tend to be better suited for track cars.

Can't wait to see this new RT-615 when it is finally released. People will be flocking to those tires like crazy.

Graham

I can't speak to all sizes, but I asked Falken earlier this month about the RT-615 availability in 275/40/17.

I received this response on Jan 18 from Tim Widener at Falken Tire:

Quote:
The new Falken RT-615, size 275/40R17 should be available around
March/April of this year.

Tim @ Falken Tire

By the way, it isn't totally safe to assume that the "new and improved" tire really is. There have been many instances of the next genreation of a tire having problems or simply not being as good as the first one.

Has anyone heard of any experiences or seen any test data from somebody that has actually driven on these??

Nobody has them yet. They started delivering them to the distributors about a week ago. - AB

I was hoping that they may have released some data on prototype tires or preproduction tires that were used for testing. For example, we often get a preview of what the next Kumho tires will be like before they hit the dealers. In this case, I guess not.
