I can't speak for anybody else in DS but it was my understanding that there was a 'gentlemen’s agreement' not to run R compounds in DS. It's not that I'm worried about winning any races in what will be my first full season, but the idea that nobody in the class is getting too sticky has made DS a very appealing class to run in.

Especially for someone who is new to the sport.

There was, last year, and the year before... No one has organized one for 2005...

Is there a chance such an agreement could make it another year or is it too late for that. Being new to the sport and the club I have to admit I have no idea how the original agreement came about.

As I had mentioned previously it makes racing much more accessible. I also like knowing that when I get beat in a race it was by the person not the car/tires. Since I know I'm too cheap/financially challenged to run race tires I would like to know what the other people in the class think.

Maybe this is a topic that is best suited for the autocross forum.

Advise??

If PRO class goes away, and I run more than one or two autocrosses next year and if I'm running a DS car. Lot of if's there but if all that happens and everyone else is running non-R compound tires I'd be willing to go along with that. I will be running Azenis or some other ultra-high performance street tire if I do come out.

However, if PRO class is still around I'll probably run there on stickies.

Shawn

Moderators - split this part off into the "autocross" forum...

I "arranged" the original agreement in '03, and we all had fun. I did it to save a buck. In '04 I helped put it together (but ran in a different class), and folks had fun. Now would be the time to start setting up the same deal in '05 (before anyone spends money on new tires).

Sally and I (mostly me) are ready to go back to race tires after a few years off, and we will be doing so. The class we run in is still up in the air, it will either be open class or pro class (or both).

We're not out there to spoil anyone's fun next year, so if there is another agreement to do street tires in DS, we'll just play in Pro class (assuming there *is* a pro class in 2005). If Pro class is gone, then I'll apologize now...

Emmett et al,

Glad you brought this up. I for one would prefer to extend the gentlemens agreement one more year. This will be my last year on the Falken's and buying a new set of tires to race on is out of the question right now. So if no one balks at the non-r tires, I say we stay as is 8) .

I'd also like to vote for keeping the agreement.

I'll be happy to run non-R compounds also.

I hear a rumor that you will be allowed to vote for or against "Pro" class on this years ballot. It seems like that would be a nice place for teh race tire people to play.

I'll run non-R's in DS if that is what everyone else is doing. That is of course if I run a DS car next year

If I run the WRX in DS, I'll run on street tires. They might even have a 400 treadwear rating.

But I'm hoping that Kevin Hoff buys a Miata & lets me co-drive it in STS2. :D

Your not gonna be able to swing a dead cat and NOT hit a STS2 car next year. Whats the tally up to now, 12-15?

I plan on racing DS next season and would like to keep racing on Azenis (and daily driving them even in rain  ). However, if I have to scoop out $1000 for used wheels and Victoracers to not get totally demolished I don't mind. Having never raced on R comps I think it would be a blast to have even more traction in my conquest to punish my ITR.

Perhaps we can start a list of all DStockers for next season after the Pro Class' existence is determined.

-matt (<goes to Vulcantire.com to order a third set of Azeni$ this year)
