Alright, I've seen the threads in the past with people considering building cars for STS2 (or STT, or whatever we call it). I'm interested in seeing who is firming up their plans.

So far AFAIK the list is as follows:

Karl Shultz: 90 Honda CRX Si
Jim Feinberg: 1st-gen MR2
Ryan Holton: CRX Si
Dan Ecclestone: 1.6L Miata
Todd Breakey: 1.6L Miata
Doug Jackson: 1.6L Miata
David Spratte: 1.6L Miata

Ryan and I are going to show you Miata weenies that the CRX is where it's at 8) As to Feinberg, well...I won't say anything that I can't back up. Yet.

Already it looks like a fun place to play but I think there's more. Anyone I've missed?

Does this mean you (Karl) will be attending more than one or two events next year?

Why don't you talk Oscar into coming back out, or is his car busted more frequently than yours?

Oscar's car is on hold awaiting...an H1 motor and a cage. His other CRX isn't quite autocross ready, needs a master cylinder among some other things I think. Which is too bad, as he could probably clean house on most of us.

I intend to do the full season if the CRX doesn't fall apart.

If so, I might be in.

Oscar could whoop up on us. It's amazing how many good drivers are out there watching us hacks.

I'm seriously considering (as seen in the other thread) a 1.8 Miata. From what I understand they are legal for the class. Why are so many of you going with the 1.6? You can co-drive if I do it Kevin Allen.

Im sooooo in for STS2 as EVERYONE knows :) Vincent will be co-driving it with me as well. So that makes 7 right now, 9 if Kevin Hoff/Kevin Allen get together.

Unfortunately my CRX wont make it to G'ville, I STILL dont even have the block and head back from the machine shop, but they are ready. Once my plug wires and Underdrive Pulley show up I have everything to make it run.... I think

120whp and low, low, low 1900 lbs here I come :)

I'm eagar to set the miata up for next year. Playing with it some this year but not sure yet what suspension set up I'll be using. Looks like Koni/GC combo or maybe some TEIN coil-overs plus bigger swaybar(s). :D

What are the rest of you guys planning on running for suspension?

Power will be the last place I spend money as there isn't much to be gained in the miata within the STS2 rules

You're an optimist.

My Civic Si in ITA trim was less than that. Built motor, 0.40 over, ECU, FPR, no cat, Puckett header, Borla with a downturn, etc, etc.

Well here's what I've done for the Honda guys. Actually this is what me, Whitney, and Jimmy just did to the thing tonight (and NO Mike, I don't hate it, it's actually pretty good)

- Tokico Illumina Shocks
- Carrera coilover sleeves
- Eibach ERS springs: 300lb front, 400lb rear
- Progress 22mm rear swaybar
- 2.5 deg negative camber front, something less than that rear, little toe out front
- car desparately needs bushings

Ryan, I'm afraid Mike's right on the horsepower. A proper ITA D16 will do 11x hp and that's with significant changes like overboring, ECU tweaking on the dyno, no emissions anything...yeah. If you break 110 you've either got a miracle motor or a broken dyno. You and I are gonna have to find speed in the corners.

Well I was going off of what some of the STS guys were putting down for power, Ryan Thompon's '89 put down 112 hp/101 tq on a Dynapack with a semi tired motor (well over 100k miles). http://www.rdtmotorsports.com/civicsi.htm

Is the Dynapack the dyno that reads high? Maybe thats why my HP goals seem a bit lofty (this aint the first converstation I have had about it).

My motor should do a bit better than that, I hope. It will be awhile before I find out, power mods are LAST, and suspension is first.

Maybe I am a bit over optimistic

Yeah. But Ryan's talking about putting decals on her too. Those alone are good for an extra 8 lb/ft and 12 fwhp :P

Actually...the Dynapacks read *low.* A number of discussions went on about that at the ECHC races a year or two ago when JE Import Performance was bringing theirs to the races. I know my GS-R read low.

Ryan, maybe I should take mine to Eurospeed and get it dyno'd...it "feels" strong as heck...

Hogwash, complete and total.

To claim any one style reads high or low is a complete load. It is all how they are set up and calibrated. The exact same type of dyno can read 2 different ways in 2 different shops.

That is why to compare numbers from different dynos is pretty much pointless.

Im taking mine sometime early next year just to know what I got.

I have dug up more dyno #'s from STS Civics:

Danny ???
91 Civic 113hp/106ft-lbs
intake, header, exhaust, pulley, ecu and 179K miles on a 90+ degree day.

Chris Shennefield
89 Civic in STS Trim - 106 hp

Andy Hollis
My old STS Civic motor made 112/106 on a Dynojet

I got all this from a SCCAFourms thread in the STS/STX category.

I dont think anyone is calling anyone out for lying in this thread, I may just be grossly misinformed. The only true way to know is strap my POS to the dyno and find out. I conjured up the 120whp figuring that if those tired Civic's could get 110-113, a fresh bottom end, fresh head and 0.020" overbore would get me 7-10 hp.

Get it right man, its not the decals but the YELLOW plug wires. Shhhh thats my secret weapon until I can get my NOS on there!!!!

My observations indicate otherwise.

I have seen the dyno plots of at least four Honda Challenge race cars from Dynojets. The numbers, for the same car, with the same motor, on the Dynapack JE carries to the track with them, are lower. Every time. Without exception.

The guy that runs JE...you know, the guy who actually bought and maintains his own Dynapack dyno...backed this up to me personally in the paddock at VIR while we were running my own car. Which, you guessed it, read lower than your standard "GS-R on a Dynojet" reading but was right there with other GS-Rs on the Dynapack in question.

Now I'll grant you that the numbers are meaningless - doing something like testing on a Dynapack, putting an ECU on the car and going to a Dynojet and claiming 30whp is a false positive. I'll also grant you that there is some sort of calibration variance - I don't know the specifics of what it is, nor do I care what they are.

Back to your regularly scheduled role call thread.

Ryan - pick one dyno and stick with it if you're going to tune the motor. I don't intend to do any dyno tuning on this car - I'm trying to keep this as cheap as possible, 209K motor and everything.
