I would like to suggest that a link be added to the THSCC preregistration website that will allow people to send classing questions to an email address.

At registration this weekend, we had at least 5 classing questions if not more. I realize that this weekend was probably an exception because the school was held the day before.

It would be a great help to the registrars if people knew what class they were in before they got on the bus. The faster the line moves, the better prepared everyone is to start the event on time.

Of course this means that someone would have to take on the responsibility of monitoring the email address.

Do we class people's cars, or do we point them toward stuff that will help them class the car on their own. I am just curious who is going to be the person answering these emails. :P

We class people's cars at the events all of the time. I'm not saying it is something we should be doing, but it is something that happens on a regular basis.

People get on the bus. If they didn't register with a class, I ask them what class they are in. They reply with it is a 91 honda civic.

Perhaps I should just start putting everyone in the class with the worst pax. :D

I need to volunteer to help out in the bus, learn how to run the timer, etc. That will be on my "to do" list for next year.

If you guys are interested in the T&S side of the bus, you are more than welcome to stop by anytime. We are always looking for more people to work in there. That way we can get a break at an event or two.

On the other hand, if you are interested in the registrar's duties, you should get with Tonya. (Tonya - are you the registrar for next year?) I'm sure that she would like to have a back up also in case she can't be at an event.

I don't know that registrars have been officially chosen for next year. However, I am on the list for next year's registrar. :)

If email isn't a good idea, we could have a link to our "visitor forum" for classing questions.

When I was registrar, if someone came into the bus and didn't know what class they were in, I sent them back to the novice table. Sucked a bit for them since they had stood in line already, and had to again, but it was an effective solution. I'd also occationally yell out the window if the line was long to be sure to ask the Novice Table if they didn't know what class their car was in.

Tonya - I feel your pain. :)

I think that that would be a harsh introduction to a newcomer. I stood in the bus the first time and with ignorance said "I don't know". I received help and was grateful that they were both knowledgeable and nice since I realized it should have been known before hand. Just my $.02, but I think it looks better for the club to be generous with help for the newbs.

This guy OBVIOUSLY never met me. :)

But this is EXACTLY WHY we have a novice table. If registration takes even 3 minutes with everyone so they all feel loved, then let's do the math... 120 entrants * 3 minutes of quality time = 360 minutes for registration. This is 6 hours. I think not. Let's pair it down to 40 novices * 2 minutes, that's still over an hour.

Now, at the time I was doing registration, I knew enough about the current classing rules to class most "usual" cars with "usual" mods, and I'd do that if I could, but I was NOT going to hold up the line to dig out the rule book. That wasn't fair to the other 25 people waiting out there in line.

Diane ~ aka Registration Bitch 1998-2000 (man, has it been that long???)

I agree with Diane. At the last event, there was a line the entire time registration was open. We even had a few people show up after registration had already closed.

The people doing registration simply can't take the time to look through the rule book to determine what class people are in.

Usually I send people to the novice table. However this past weekend Jason Mauldin was in the bus doing paypal out of the window so I asked him most of the questions. This turned out to not be very effective. The registration line kept getting longer and longer.

Which brings me to the point of why everyone was in the registration line anyway. We only had 14 people use paypal. The paypal line is always much shorter than the registration line.

From now on, I will send people to the novice table. I just thought it would be nice for novices to be able to get classing questions answered before the day of the race.
