How do I determine which class the MSM should be in with 15" wheels and Kumhos?

Hmm, 15" wheels are not stock, so you will be in Street Prepared as a minimum. Either BSP or ASP, I'm not sure. Alternatively you could run SM2 (probably the easier option, besides, you can up the boost in SM2).

I think the MSM hasn't been classed in SP or P, so it would be SM2. - AB

Scott, why would SM2 be easier than BSP? The MSM Turbo is not ajustable so I cannot alter the boost.

Aaron why would it be illegal in ASP with the catch-all?

I was under the impression that SP now has to be officially classed. You might be right though, ASP was the catch all the last I looked.

As far as the boost is concerned, manual boost controllers are very cheap and easy way to make any non-adjustable boost car, adjustable ;) - AB

actually looking at Mouton's I think it's either in BSP by the "all sports cars under 2.0l" or on the same line (very very temporarily) with the regular miata in CSP as the listing there is simply "MX5 Miata"

Anyway, I'm sure the SEB will be listing the Mazdaspeed Miata quite soon. If I was to bet I'd say it'll end up in ASP with the higher adjusted displacement lightweight sports cars rather than BSP with heavy sports cars and high power sport sedans. Will it be competitive against an Elan? Who knows... The power and chassis stiffness might balance out the light weight of the Elan.

Something I've wondered about on turbo cars: Are manual boost controllers _always_ legal on turbos in SP?

That was for SM2 of course... just wanted to let him know it was possible. - AB

So, am I ASP or BSP and what is the difference? SM2 would put me up against racecars wouldn't it?

ASP and BSP are similr, just a different set of stock-ish cars to run against. Locally BSP is a few M3's, and no one even runs ASP. Nationally ASP would be modified Z06's, Lotus Europa's, and other fancy cars.

Street Modified 2, by name excludes race cars ("street"). Locally you owuld be up against a '73 911, MR2 Turbo, and supercharged Miata's (sounds like your car would be a good fit).

I was under the (miss?)understanding that 15" wheels will not clear the bigger brake rotors.

Mine clear fine.
I have a friend "PiperDave" on Miata.net with 15s on his MSM.
My son runs 15" Koseis on his 2002 SE.

jimpastorius:
I put the 15s on in order to get more sidewall (205/50/15).
The stock 17" Racing Harts had 205/40/17s.
