Well, it did sprinkle for about 5 minutes on Saturday :) So technically, the tradition lives on.

The event was a lot of fun. Tom Hoppe laid out a nice 30 second course that was similar to the last year's south course at the championships. If you remember, we ran something very similar at one of the RBC night events. The course had two nice sweepers which we never see enough of.

The turnout was very low, maybe only 125 drivers. I think I saw where over 2500 runs were made. Hoppe toke overall PAX with me coming in right behind him. But he cheated :) I made my timed runs right out of the gate. Then changed tires and made about 15 or so test runs (I lost count) . I wanted to practice being fast out right from the start.

Overall, a very good event. The organization was first rate. This was probably the best 24 hour event I had attended. Not sure how the night was or Sunday, I headed back home around 7 Saturday evening. So for $30 I put over 20 runs on the car.

It was definetly fun. Probably put about 30-40 runs on my car between Miranda and I. If not for the event format, Jim would have gotten me on pax, as I coned away my fast runs right off the bat, and snuck a good one in there at like 5:30 in the morning after getting some sleep :)

I was a little dissapointed as I did 3 runs right off the bat and was trying to nail those 3. Then I wanted to spend the rest of the event getting faster and seeing how much more I had in the car then those 3 runs. I ended up coning away a 28.4 on my 3rd run and if not for the event format, would have sat on my 28.8 clean first run :( Considering I got down to a 28.1 on my 7th or 8th run, I wasn't happy with my first 3 runs.

Miranda on the other hand got down to within a second of me and was top 10 pax! sweeetness.

I had a great time! The only downside was teh ticket I got on the way up there (Doh!). I saved a couple of official runs for teh wee hours and wound up setting my fastest time of the day (by 2 10ths) on my 4th official! I put in more than 40 runs, but lost count when we stopped handing out times after the optional slalom was made mandatory. I came within a half-second of the fastest ES Miata so I'm pretty proud of that.

It sprinkled at best for only a few. I'm used to the format, having done it for a few years now so I did maybe a couple of practice and then an official run. Later when it started to rain I figured that was going to be the best time, so I coned away two runs then.

My best runs came about 7am after I returned from a nap; got in the car cold and ran a 28.8 (matching Tom's time). I then blew my last official on a 29.0 run and got pissed off about that and quit running. I had time all over the place that I could have improved, but overall my result was decent.

The turnout was so low that we packed up at 11am the next morning after folks were just bored from running (first time ever!) The rain was so minimal that the course was never really affected so that was definitely a plus. The 2 hour work shifts really aren't that bad and the timing system (that CCR just bought) works BEAUTIFULLY.

More folks need to go next time! :)
