Why are STS2 and SM2 listed as STT and SSM respectively for Tarheel events? Just curious.

Because class numbers and your car number aren't incredibly well defined sometimes by folks, so you could end up with something on the car that looked like:

STS25

Is that "STS 25" or "STS2 5"? So basically it's to try to keep errors to a minimum without having to enforce any insane rules on number size and class size (like the SCCA does).

That makes sense. If I'd thought about it I would have figured it out from this weekend, where an older Subaru Legacy wagon was wearing teh numbers STS2 and I was scratching my head wondering how on earth a Legacy wagon was classed with Miatas and CRXs.

We also recognized early on that any classes containing numbers would wreak havoc in T&S. Can you imagine the starter calling "Ess Tee Ess Two Three on the line", and someone having to do a "find driver" in the computer? STS 23 or STS2 3?

The SCCA runs all of the cars in a class at once, so it's not an issue for them.

Well, at national level stuff they do... at local stuff it's another story... to add to the fun, NER uses an "N" or an "S" preceeding the class if you are a novice. (N = Novice Stock, S = Novice everything else)... Picture this...

SSTS2 22
STS 22
STS2 22
SSTS 22

Yeah, that sucks... and people are still using shoepolish and equally bad other types of numbers on there car... we had someone this weekend that thought that blue to purple fade-job numbers contrasted on a black car. :banghead:

Yeah, so I'm co-cheif of timing and scoring next season (yeah, I'm a sucker). I have some changes to suggest (like enforcing SCCA number requirements). :soap:

Two thumbs up for THSCC not using numbers in their class letters! :)

Nope, I meant what I typed... all 4 cars with number 22 and cars not properly marked with classes. What a hassle.

Diane ~ who wants to institute a "we assume that if you can't clearly mark your car you must not be interested in being included in the results" policy up here :)
