Laurinburg is my favorite venue, but this track is by far my favorite, those involved in designing it deserve a pat on the back! Nice flow, fast course, blah, blah, blah!

Also, in case you haven't noticed, GS seems to be one of the places to be this year and it's supposed to get another three competitors next year.

Great event! All the cool perks (T's, dinner, good hotel, mugs, special prizes) made it extra special. Too bad we ran out of tires SO early Sat AM, I would have loved to have run the course on sticky tires with rubber still on them!

Who needs rubber? By the way, metal grips worse than cord. This was the first time I have seen metal showing on a set of tires. Not something I want to see again :)

Nice, typical Laurinburg course. I too enjoyed the extra perks. A special thanks to Mike for organizing Saturday night's affair. We need more of those type of things.

Course setup - Me, Shawn, Patrice, Mitch Moore & Bill Martin. Thanks again, guys! And thanks to Christine & Brenda for selling the food & drinks, Mike Whitney for the party at the hotel, and Shawn for the t-shirts... and to all the folks who worked like crazy people to make sure the event kept running semi-smoothly when the timer issues and various other problems came up. To anybody who did more than show up, run & work your assigned job, THANK YOU, and please keep it up.

A special thanks goes out to Mitch Moore, who let me drive the Boxster TWICE during fun runs and made me almost forget about getting my ass kicked during competition runs.

:D

The whole weekend was awesome! The course design was the best so far this season IMO. The dinner and social Saturday evening was the best part. It was good to see our founding father Bowie Sr. at the event. Most of you newbies have no idea who he is or what he has done for us over the past 40 years. If you're reading this and have no idea who I'm talking about read this. Thanks Bowie for all your effort over the years. All of us (even those who don't know you) really appreciate it. :toast:

Thanks to Christine and Brenda for providing us with a hot lunch both days. Great job ladies and I hope you both made enough $$$ to keep providing us with this valuable service!

I also would like to thank Mitch Moore for letting me have two fun runs in the Boxster. Holy sh*t, man is that car a lot of fun! Mitch, if you ever need a co-driver or tire warmer give me call. Kevin, I wish your time didn't get screwed up on your run. I'd like to know if I beat you.

BTW Kevin, where are the pics? It's 10:00 on Monday morning, how long do you need....geez :P

I agree with all of the sentiment so far. It was a really good event, even if I couldn't stay off the cones for any of my fast runs :) Awesome course, that really punished those that couldn't put it all together. How many of us were out there scratching our heads trying to figure out how to stay off the cones?

Brenda and Christine did an awesome job at the grill. It made the event really nice. As for the social event, well, it blew away any expectations I had. Good food, a lot of fun, and whoever thought of the tent for late night social time, deserves a medal. ;)

As much fun as the traditional Rocky Mount 2-days were, this was better, minus the 'gnats from hell'.

I also want to thank Scott Sawyer for letting me drive his Civic, as well as Kevin (for letting me take a 'spin' in his 2.5RS). I now know why the Civic guys are so fast, for I hit a 69.0 in it without much trouble at all . Kevin's car wasn't quite as easy.. taking 3rd in the taxiway slalom didn't work out as planned :) - AB

That was a good time this weekend I have to say. I've got some cobwebs to shake off - I don't drive much lately - but still did pretty ok in Mom's Spyder in tire class.

Having food on site was awesome, well done.

One observation - if you're having trouble going fast, get one of the fast guys to ride with you. I had Pastorious ride with me, he gave me some useful tips, and I dropped two seconds off my raw time  Turns out driving an autocross like a road course doesn't always work.

Yeah, I kinda feel like I'm wasting my time with the Impreza now. I heard I ran a 69.x in the Civic, too - and I wasn't even pushing it that hard (in case anybody's unsure, this is faster than my time in my own car - and I drove the Civic ONCE). When I got back in my car it was like a luxury sedan by comparison. That Civic felt like I was driving a go-kart.

Oh, and Vincent - even without the timer, I KNOW my time in the Boxster was faster than my time in the Civic, so just say a 68.x

So what to do? Keep playing around with the 2.5RS? Get a Civic Si & own STS once again? Or get a Boxster & forget about ever having to modify a car again? Decisions, decisions...

If we were using the seat of the pants timer my 5th run yesterday was a 66.x. Too bad the real timer malfunctioned and I had to take a re-run. :(

Yeah, I have to say I liked it too. Special thanks to Jim Feinberg for showing me how to drive my car faster w/o any practice :banghead: I picked up some pointers that I can take to Laurins next week and maybe not finish DFL

WHEW! it was a fun weekend, long but fun. The event started for me Thursday evening when I picked the bus up on the way home from work and it ended Sunday at about Midnight when I got home from dropping the bus off.

I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped out.

I'm sure I'll miss a few folks who deserve recognition, but here is my list of people I remember putting in an extra effort.

Kevin and Christine Allen who did a great job as event chairs, even though Kevin shares the credit the course design was mostly his.

Mike Whitney who drove down to make sure the Saturday party went well even though he didn't feel that great and had been up the night before with a sick baby.

Patrice who help with course setup and was just generally keeping watch over the event both days to make sure things were running smoothly.

Randy Melton who dove under the hood of the bus when it started making a funky popping sound at idle.

Christine Allen for being co-burger cooker.

Kathy Gleason who watched our daughter both days so Brenda could be the other co-burger cooker.

And last but not least thanks to my wife Brenda who did a lot of the leg work to make the T-shirts happen and stood in front of the world's biggest grill for 2 days cooking hotdogs and hamburgers. She also gets extra credit for putting up with my crazy hobby and not complaining.....well not much anyway.

I think everyone had a good time this weekend and I know I did. The course was great and fun to drive even if I did manage to cone on about every single run.

I had to priveledge of taking a fun run with Bowie Gray in his MGB which he has owned since before the club founded. To quote him "that MGB is the car that started this whole mess". The funny thing about his fun run was before we started he said "I'm just going to take it easy, just make it a touring lap" And when we started out he was taking it pretty easy, with a nice smooth line. Then about halfway through the course he didn't pick up the start of a slalom and instead of just missing the gate he tossed the car sideways into it and then it was ON. The tires were squealing almost constantly the rest of the way to the finish. And I'm sure the poor car was thinking what the heck are you doing to me?? But I definately had fun.

See you all at the next event.

Shawn
