The officers and staff of THSCC want to thank all who attended a very successful autocross event at NCCAR last Saturday, August 4th. We especially want to thank whomever changed the weather from its forcast 80% showers to a bright sunny day. Vanessa Perry, Ray Hartney, and Drew Issacs' course design was amazing. It was designed to be safe and fun rain or shine. The result was an amazingly fast and grippy course. Their hard work designing the course in advance paid dividends. When your fastest timed run is 77.114 seconds, you know that your entry fees were well spent. It's really hard to hold your breath for 80+ seconds.

Our attendance was 118 strong, including 26 Novices. Both FTD and FTD PAX were won by Shane Irving, a VMSE friend, in a CAM Mustang with a time of 77.114 seconds raw and 62.949 seconds PAX. This is the first time in our club's history that a CAM classed car has won FTD, not to mention PAX. Our largest class was STR with 12 entries won by Alan Claffie in a 2010 MX5 with a time of 80.460, followed closely by car sharing Trevor Blackwell, time 80.706. Many thanks to Bart Craig and Chris Vasques for sharing their cars when Carlton's S2000 broke. Yes, Hondas do break down. Jeremy Ellison, long gone THSCC VP, visited from Cali and showed he still had it with a 3rd place finish. We had our largest SM class in recent memory, 8 entries, won by Ray Hartney with a smoking 78.683. FS was easily won by Benny Colantuono, time 79.067. We had a nice showing in GS, dominated by VW GTI's. The fastest was Patrice Bousquet with a time of 80.711, giving him 3rd in PAX.

You may have noticed that a Scion FRS with stock Prius tires topped our PAX results. This is obviously a timing error. A Scion does not match raw times with a well driven new Porsche 911 Turbo. Sorry Lee, you're good, but not that good. Your new ride is sweet. Obviously, we had a few timing errors that we are having trouble correcting. If you feel that you are a victim of a timing error, please contact us at axscoring@thscc.com . This is the first time it has happened at THSCC in many years.

We'd like to thank all the CAM drivers who showed up. We had a large CAM class with many novices at NCCAR. We hope you enjoyed the event and we really want to see you at future autocrosses. A special thanks goes out to Shane Irving, who not only had FTD/FTP in his awesome Mustang, but he was jumping in with CAM class novices to help them get faster. George would also like to thank all the staff members and volunteers who helped with Novices.

It was a little difficult for us to keep things flowing throughout the day because our PA system was not working. We have been on a planned path, for the last three years, to update all of our event infrastructure, the last of which is our crappy bus and it's flakey PA system. We are very close, so keep coming to our events so that we can raise enough money for the new tow vehicle and a reliable PA system.

Our next event will be at Cary Towne Centre on August 25th. Sign up early as the Cary events fill up quickly. If you had as much fun as we did, don't miss THSCC's return to NCCAR on September 15th. Please fill out the after event survey. We are always striving to improve our events.

Thanks Mike for the great write-up. As of now, it still looks like I still have the top pax time. Obviously this is not correct especially when that run time was more than 10 seconds faster than any of my other runs. I don't have video or data to substantiate what my time was for that run, so I'd like to declare my fourth run a DNF. Please make it so.

Thanks,

Lee
