2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS

2835 lbs with all loose items removed & full gas tank (I get fuel starvation with a little over 1/2 tank, so I just run it full)

15.8 sec 1/4 mile

Corey Ridgick's ProSolo-winning 2000 2.5RS weighed 26xx lbs last time he had it on the scales & can run a 14.9 at the strip.

Uhhh... :?

Yeah, and that's with a "stock" clutch.

The weight differences between my car & his afaik:

he has lightweight seats, pulleys, wheels, no muffler, smaller anti-roll bars, Tein coilovers and uses 3/4 tank of gas.

He also has a body kit & extra gauges, and front & rear strut braces, not sure what else. I'm having a hard time figuring out how I could drop that much weight legally. (but I am NOT suggesting that his car is illegal!!!)

3280 lbs with ~1/8 tank of fuel and everything else taken out. Like Les said, not exactly light but when you have all that torque you can get away with a little extra weight. :)

Kevins POS car - 2835 lbs
Coreys car - 2685 lbs

lightweight seats = 45lbs
pulleys = 10lbs
wheels = 10lbs
no muffler = 15lbs
smaller anti-roll bars = 5lbs
Tein coilovers = 20lbs
1/4 tank of gas = 20lbs

lightweight battaray = 25lbs

2835 - 150 = 2685

Damn I'm good

-Tom

Caterham 7 with driver and 6 gals gas: 1495 lbs

Driver = 185 lbs

I could drop almost 100 lbs without too much imagination:

Buy Racing wheels - 15 lbs
Remove Front light bowls - 10 lbs
Buy Alum. Radiator - 10 lbs
Buy Alum. Bell housing- 10 lbs
Remove carpets - 7 lbs
Less gas - 20 lbs
Remove Heater/vent - 10 lbs
Buy Light flywheel - 5 lbs

My silver 2003 WRX (at the Pro in Petersburg last year): 3005
This was in just about ideal DS trim with stock wheels, hoosiers, and about 1/4 on gas.

It could lose:
12 lb wheels
12 lb (2 gal) gas
20 lb straight pipe exhaust like Tom's old one

So 2960 is about absolute minimum for a DS WRX (mine has no options)

This weekend, Mike's Sedona Red 2002 WRX was 3035

He could take a _lot_ of weight out of the car:
60 lb seats
30 lb wheels (cheap 17's are insane heavy)
20 lb light exhaust
20 lb lawn mower battery
20 lb ugly wing
10 lb dynamat for stereo
15 lb stereo amp
5 lb stereo cabling
5 lb stock headlights instead of snazzy HID's
5 lb glovebox garbage
5 lb UTEC
+10 lb back to stx legal steel control arms instead of SM legal Aluminum

So net 185 lb savings
2850 and still STX legal

Kevin,

You buy the seats and I'm there as seats are just NOT in my budget. The stock head unit vs. the head unit in there now + amplifier (small 2-channel) is a wash. There's *maybe* 5lbs of wiring to support that at most. All of the 2gauge wiring and such was removed; the amp is under the driver seat so at least it's down low. I'm keeping the wing; 2lbs of dynamat can be lost from the trunk.

Possibly getting a lightweight battery today; will let you know.

30lbs on the wheels? *confused* They're about 3lbs heavier a corner (I think) than Tom's wheels. I'll have to look up the specs on the Rota Tarmacs vs. the Rota Attacks.

UTEC is coming out today...which really it was an expensive paperweight to me anyhow. I was on stock boost, stock ECU, and a stock turbo. I might actually lose a touch of weight on the intercooler hoses; the plastic ones are lighter than the Samco hoses I think. That will come off in a few weeks along with the fuel rails, the tranny mount, and I'll do other car maintenance as well. Hopefully by mid-July I'll be STX legal instead of just another guy in SM with an oddly-modified WRX.

Your stock car could lose a lot of weight by doing a straight-pipe catback like Tom had on his D-stock car you know. ;)

1991 Corvette Z07 with all the heavy options (leather, power seats, etc.) with 6 speed.

Weight at Roebling was exactly 3400 lbs w/o driver and with 3/4 tank of gas.
That includes spare tire, jack, and 5 to 10 lbs of "other stuff". The car did have heavier street tires and stock rims at the time.

Stock class legal weight adjustments would be:
- remove spare, jack, lugs, etc. - 60 lbs
- only 1 to 2 gal gas - 60 to 70 lbs
- smaller battery - 10 to 15 lbs??
- lightweight rims - 20 lbs
- hoosiers vs street tires - 12 to 16 lbs
- a few misc things.. - 10 lbs

Golly, I could probably get rid of 172 lbs or more, bringing the car down to
3230. The only problem is that most of the weight I'd be removing is in the back (and I need it in the back) and I can't run the car with only 1 to 2 gallons in autox because of fuel starvation problems. So the above is probably a good drag race weight.

oh yeah... driver goes on diet.. - 15 lbs.

1998 Saab 900.

Weighed 2950 with over a half a tank of gas, spare tire, etc.

I could probably drop ~115 lbs.

- Huge amp, rear speakers (subwoofer was already out) = 10 lbs.
- Rear deck cover = 5 lbs.
- Lighter wheels/tires = 30 lbs.
- A/C (yeah right...this is hot carolina) = 0 lbs.
- 8 gallons of gas X 6 lbs per gallon = 48 lbs.
- Spare tire = 20 lbs.

Of course, it would help if the driver can drop another 75 lbs or so too.

Me: 180 lbs.

Integra R: supposedly 2600 lbs. or so

I pulled my car onto the scale just for shits and giggles and it was exactly 2780! I figured the 1/2 tank of gas made up for the absence of the spare, mats, and rear baffle board. Come to think of it, I do have about 25 lbs. of stereo equipment.

92 Corvette Coupe (not Z07) w/all options. GM says 3317lbs (without fuel)

Scales came out to 3545lbs with me in it and 3/4 tank of gas.

Remove Driver -165 (3380)
Remove fuel -60 (3320)
Remove red paint -3 (3317lbs)

Like Miles said, lightening the back end isn't the problem. The car also fuel starves so I fill up when I leave for an event. Too lazy to remove the spare anyway.

Weight Distribution F/R% = 51.5 / 48.5 (no driver or fuel)

Graham

I know I don't drive a Corvette, but weight is weight, and it takes force to accelerate it, and decelerate it. I know the FS and SS National guys aren't running with a spare in, or more gas to add 'balance'. They're stripping every bit of legal weight off they can, regardless of where it is.

I've seen Miles and others (not picking on Miles, this is just an observation) ask for people to ride along to 'balance' the car.

Any car with 200 more pounds in it will be slower than it was originally.

If you want your car to be balanced, take it to an alignment shop: pull everything out of it that isn't bolted down and legal for your particular class, have the least amount of gas in it that you can get away with, without fuel starving on course, and sit in the driver's seat and get it aligned to your 'specs'. Then when you are on course, the car in autocross trim is setup for you, and adding anything else to it will upset the balance.

Handling characteristics can be altered very easily with tire pressures and alignments, but adding unnecessary weight is not the answer. - AB
