Sept autox at Cary

The upcoming Cary Towne center autox is listed as event #2 on the 2nd page of MSR. Would someone fix that please?

I looked again and now I don't see it listed. It was on the 2nd page of the MSR registration for the event.

I thought it was great myself. However, seeing as how we have a huge number of novices coming out with high HP cars, I think those straights were too straight and fast. We had 2 cars hit curbs, one destroying at least one $4000 wheel, and a BMW hit the curb too. I saw at least one other Novice in a fast car way overcook the turn and nearly kissing the curb.

I think we need to take into consideration the course there since we know we're going to get a huge novice turn out with high hp cars and the drivers possibly having no idea what the car is or isn't capable of.

Just a observance from my end, I know it's not really our fault these guys didn't show restraint on the gas pedal but it may eventually bite us when cars are potentially threatening to leave the course and tangle with parked cars, or real road traffic.

The fellow in the Z4 was intentionally drifting the sweeper and the Mustang guy told me his foot got stuck under the brake pedal FWIW.

We talked a great bit about the two curb hits, and have some ways we can mitigate that risk in the future. However, if we have people intentionally drifting portions of the course, we need to kick them out before they get themselves in trouble. As for the gentleman getting his foot stuck under the brake pedal, I'm not sure what we can do about that other than say that we are lucky that all he did was break a wheel. Massive driver error like that can always cause an incident regardless of course design.

I don't think that the course was inherently dangerous, but it was a bit loose at times. Of course (ha, get it), we're hamstrung by the size of the lot and I'm sure that attendance wouldn't be nearly as high if the course was nothing but decreasing radius corners that punish you for not looking ahead.

From the sidelines, it looked like the Z4 driver took it in stride because his next run was just as sideways as the rest of his runs.

Nope, it's carbon fiber, and from what I saw on the car, it was toast.

I didn't hear the foot caught under the brake part, although that kinda just sounds like trying to save face. I saw the Z4 drive drifting the last run, which certainly looked show boaty, didn't see his other runs though. He did that last run with a novice in the car too.

I had to leave early, so I wasn't able to witness these hits. I think this is a case of simply over driving the car. We tried to make a fun course based on the size and I don't think it was too fast, but for the sake of safety I can see slowing this down a bit. Sucks to have folks hurt their cars... I also agree with Brice, in this case the Z4 driver should have been pulled aside for the drift. Just not needed at this site. I'm a drift fan myself, but this is not the venue to do it.

Agreed, it doesn't really matter at places like Danville where there's a ton of run off and we don't have tons of spectators and real traffic driving by close by.

It was obviously over driving the car, I didn't see anyone who is a regular have any problems with coming close to hitting curbs. It was only new folks who looked to be driving a good bit faster than I normally see a novice drive. Likely somebody who has been a car guy/gal for some time but never having done a event where they're actually testing the limits of their car and wind up overestimating that limit.

I thought the course was fun though, I was actually full throttle through almost the entire sweeper on that end of the course after braking for initial turn in lol. I used so much full throttle in the 1.0L Focus, it was kind of fun. It really needs a rear sway bar though and something better than 500TW touring tires lol. I think it was capable of 47s, I just wasn't trying that hard since I knew I wouldn't be competitive in class.
