Nope, Jim's telling the truth. Gotta have a rule book that way when you get protested you can't say "Well I didn't know you couldn't do that!!!"

Or you can use the ol' "hey, let me borrow your rulebook for a second" trick ;)

Oh yea, if available to consumer, you also need the factory manual for your car.

The web site doesn't offer much information on how the Laurens event is run.

For you guys that have done this before, what is the general schedule for the SE divisional events? Do you come the evening before for course walks or do them Sat morning? Number of runs? etc..

Anything a first-timer should be aware of?

Thanks!

It is a lot different than the THSCC format and even VMSC format. When you register you will find out what heat your are running in. Each heat is split into two grids, A and B. You will be assigned a grid spot. You will need to grid about 30 minutes prior to your runs. You only get 3 runs.

If you have the luxury to get there on Friday, the course is usually open around 6 in the evening for walking. It is a good idea to register and get the car through tech Friday afternoon or evening. Get it out of the way. The gates on Saturday usully open around day break. So you can get some walks in on Saturday morning. The first car off is at 9 o'clock in the morning on Saturday and 8 o'clock in the morning on Sunday. With a 8:15 drivers meeting on Saturday only.

After all the runs are completed on Saturday, small changes are usually made to the course for Sunday. Then it is open for walking. 99% of the time we run the course in opposite direction on Sunday from Saturday.

I am not sure if I made it more conusing than it really is. But it is pretty straight forward. Track down a fellow THSCC member or members and ask questions.

Jim, what's the reason for the factory manual?

Todd,

If you had the rule book you would know. :D

A manual is not a requirement at registration. It is a requirement IF your car is protested.

It is a responsibility of the competitor to be able to document the specs for his/her car. This is the long time tradition of SCCA Solo II. Note that if the spec in question is not covered in the factory manual it then becomes the protestor's responsibility to provide documentation.

It is a hold over from the days when manuals were paper and many of the relevant specs were in the factory manual. The SEB is struggling with what to do now that manuals in any media can be both extremely expensive and/or may not have the relevant specs.

I have a rule book, I didn't say I read it! I am a man you know, we aren't supposed to read the instructions until we have to.

Ok so if I follow this correctly then I have to pay for National SCCA membership ($55) + Regional to NCR ($20) + Rule Book ($25). So that's a $100 just so I can sign up for this 1 event? That correct?

Only if you look at it as a one event deal. If you plan on attending other SCCA events this year, want to have a voice in future rules, want to subscribe to SportsCar, want to be an SCCA worker, etc, etc. that's a different way to look at the numbers.

If you join just to attend one event, it will probably rain or something else will happen to make the event "not worth it" :D

I remember asking pretty much the same question last year. I joined this year, and I think it was worth all the fees for what I've gotten out of it so far. And now I see it from Dick's point of view.

Oh, and it rained during most of my 1st ProSolo - the main event I joined for.

I didn't renew my membership this year because it wasn't worth paying that much money for at most one event.

Add in the additional expense of a family membership, and it is even more out rageous. No to mention that "SportsCar" is mostly a joke as a publication.

I read the rule book last nite about divisional events and found that I must have SCCA decals and sponsorship decals. I found the SCCA decals on their web site, but haven't found a source for sponsorship decals. Anybody know a source for "official" decals?

Given the size of the SCCA decals, I suspect the sponsor decals will be so big they won't fit on my car! So, my "sponsor loyalty" may be dictated by the size of their decal.:)

You can get the required SCCA stickers at the tech trailer. The one you need for the front of the car cost $1. The Tirerack windshield banner and decals are free.

I suggest picking up a couple of windshield banners. Better to be safe than sorry when applying them. Whatever you do, do not use water when applying them. Just center it and stick it on. Helps if you have an assistant.

The sponsor decals are usually the tire manufacture decals. Read their information for placement and the the number of them. But you are only required to have the SCCA decals and Tirerack windsheild banner. I fthe F125's can get them on, you won't have any problems :)

Check out the national cars in Laurinburg if you have any questions.

And you thought I just like putting decals on my car.

You get the decals at tech. At least that's where you get them at ProSolos. I think you have to pay $3 for them. (so I have to put these stickers on my car, and I have to pay you for them?)

If your car is made out of "real" metal  I'd suggest getting magnetic material from Michael's or somewhere & putting the stickers on that. For those with non-metal front ends, be aware that one of the stickers has to go somewhere on the front. (I put mine on the hood - but it was on a magnet)

Not much you can do with the Tire Rack sticker, though - if you don't want to keep it, you'll just have to scrape it off later. Although you could be like the guy with the Neon in STS who put his on in the rain & the first time he ran the wipers... well, I think you can guess what happened!
