VMP was fun and wish I could have made the NCCAR. The course looked fun and the donut at the beginning was something we practiced at the Evo School. Doing that on a wet Danville surface was definitely educational. 8)

I tested that red cable during the bus day and it worked fine with the laser and reflector close together. I didn't test the laser at a very far distance from the reflector though.

It turned out that one of the other cables was bad. I marked the spool so we don't use it again. I didn't use the red one as I'd heard it was bad.

Wired stuff sucks

The red one needed some work done it to make sure it didn't break. It's possible it needs some fixing now also. If I recall the shielding is not really thick enough to be held into the connector so it likely needs to be looped and taped or something to keep the wires themselves from being pulled out. It's probably a simple fix.

It's time for some new shit. We have money, we have options. Just buy something modern already that will be reliable. Why all the hand wringing? Make a spreadsheet of cost options and we can make a pro a con chart for each. Choose one without wires....

And we need 50 more cones.

Agree to all the above. It's time to seriously replace the equipment we have, becoming more and more problematic... As for the cones, I know we ordered new ones last year, but the cold at the start of this year took a healthy tool on those. They also don't seem as durable. We also have an issue w/ the old black rubber based one I ordered years ago. They don't stack well and are a bit brutish when hitting a car. While we're on this subject, the bus was a mess from the last rally cross in regard to dirt everywhere, in the bus, all over the dash, in the trailer, coated all of the cones. We need to come up w/ a better strategy going forward.

I redid the timer end connector at the last rallyx -- as the ground wire had broken. It's reasonably secure now.

That's a matter of having the time to clean it afterwards, which I usually don't, certainly not the evening/night after.

Brice, Mike, Zach and I are meeting next week to discuss a bunch of this stuff without distractions.

Most likely we are going to buy 100 new SCCA cones that will hopefully last longer than the last batch. We are going to discuss the timer, the bus, the trailer, and the maintenance/repair of the all. Yes part of that is a pro/con sheet. It's not hand wringing it is looking at options. The cones are a no brainer, we will just buy them. The other issues require a little more discussion over the options. Rather than get into a 7 page forum post over awnings, generators, timers, busses, trailers, aircon, cables no cables we are going to divvy up the jobs and then get information and make a decision.

So just everyone relax and we will get a plan done and then execute so half the club can bitch about whatever plan we make. :-)

Do you want to include the bus keepers (and someone in the rallyx camp)?

I expected the $2 cones were going to be way on the cheap side. I can understand autox not liking the heavy cones, but those are hands-down the best for rallyx (which often needs cones that can stand up on grass.) The timers we have are museum pieces, but they do certainly get the job done. Axware, however, no one likes that crap. I'm one of the few people who could stand to poke at it long enough to know how to use it quickly. (one cannot hold up an event to go through menu after menu to sort something out. And it can just barely do rallyx.)

For this I'm just trying to get some ideas about planning for AX for the most part. Once we figure out some direction I think we'll go to you all and get information about the bus. It drives fine and tows ok, but needs some work. (Especially the AC) Which cones do you like for RX, the black base ones or the new ones we bought.

Thanks
Rob

I guess I've finally re-hydrated by now from last weekend. I enjoyed both events, thanks to the event chairs and autocross staff! Next year, let's pick a cooler month.

Please help me find the Saturday cookie box. Bus workers know what I'm talking about - this one is kind of tall, translucent with a rough finish. It's actually sized to hold a 1/2 gallon ice cream carton. Anyway, I looked around for it in the bus and trailer Sunday and came up empty. If you know where it is, please let me know. I need return it to the lady who bakes the cookies.

Pretty sure it was in the bus at the end of the day Saturday, not sure where it made it after that.

I think I remember seeing it. If you RX guys use the bus before we do please identify it and leave it in the bus for the next event. The only reason that people tolerate the bus is Art's mom's cookies :D
