Fun course, but I couldn't figure it out. It was slow and all momentum maintenance, where you could carry your speed through all the turns. Apparently I suck at doing that :)

Corey Riddick in his 2.5RS said he wasn't even on the rev limiter in 2nd gear with his short tires

Having said that, the Jims did well, even though they coned away their last and fastest runs, with Jim P. coning away the win.

Everyone else suffered the same fate as Shawn and I, taken to the shed!

Jim F coned away a win. I was just happy to be there after Thursday night

I thought it was cool course. It is amazing that on a 70 second course we never needed 3rd gear and still walked away with the shakes. Hell, after my third run on Saturday, I had to sit in the car for a few minutes to calm down.

On the Sunday course, I think I only took three breaths during the entire 60 seconds. And one of those was right at the start :)

I had the worst event of any National level event. My lack of course walks on Saturday morning along with a dump truck like pushing car, killed me. After reviewing the video, I was early apexing most of the corners, and paying for it dearly. Even when I did hit my line, I washed out horribly. Regardless, I had fun and learned some things for this weekend. Fortunately, we tuned out the push and had the car pretty well balanced on Sunday, but neither of us could put together a good run.

The ProSolo will be better... I'm willing to put a lot of $ on that one ;) - AB

From the descriptions and the course map photo I saw on one site, my guess is that those of you who mostly run airport courses on slippery surfaces just haven't been able to set your cars up and calibrate your butts for "normal" Nationals style courses on what appeared to be good pavement. The only site I know "around here" that is useful is Dinwiddie and I guess the really high grip site in the Hampton Roads area that I haven't been to in many years. Looking at the pictures of the event, I felt really bad about not being there!!!!

I had a good time overall at the event despite the fact that I drove with my head up my rear on Saturday. I can’t remember being that mad at myself for committing stupid mistakes in a car in a very long time. Jim P described me as “suicidal” but little did he know I wasn’t about to kill myself, I wanted to kill everybody around me! :P Even though I went there just to have fun and soak in the experience, I couldn’t help but feeling like a total nitwit for the way I was driving.

Sunday turned out to be much better and I finally got back in the groove somewhat. Even though I coned away what would have been a time good enough for the win, I was still happy with the way I drove. I was less disappointed with the fact that I didn’t win than the reality that we didn’t get to take home a pair of free Hoosiers. I certainly can’t complain with 2nd at my first tour event especially considering I was 6th after Saturday’s runs.

Both courses were an absolute blast and it was amazing how deceiving they were during the course walks. Saturday’s course drove much faster than it walked and Sunday’s course was just the opposite. Once again, I wish we had a site like that around here to build courses like that! Regardless of the speed, they were both hang on for deal life type of deals if you wanted to post a fast time. With a lot of relatively long momentum sections, any small mistake cost a bunch of time which you were never getting back. Considering the number of tricky off-camber or decreasing radius turns leading into a decent straight section, there were plenty of opportunities to mess up.

All in all it was a great learning experience and I can’t wait for this coming weekend.

Jim

You needed cojones the size of cantalopes just to keep them from being sucked up by the strong puckering required! There is no other national event that compares with that site. Huge elevation changes ~ 50', downhill slaloms and offsets, off camber corners and sweepers, blind gates made each run a thrill ride worthy of Six Flags. Saturday's course was probably twice as long as any we've done at Laurenburg with two trips up and down the "mountain". Sunday was the same course run in reverse with a section removed before the finish, but the terrain made it extremely different. The slightest error in execution cost you several seconds. The differences in times were huge, for example Tim Aro finished 1st in CSP, and Rod McGeorge was 3rd but 5 seconds back, Donna was 13th and I was 14th, but 2 sec behind her and 4 sec back raw. Saturday's runs started at 9:15 AM and ended at 8:15 PM!!!
Donna did quite well in her first foray into open class at a national event. Saturday she was 10/24, .9 sec out of trophies. Sunday she had a cone penalty on all three runs, but still finished 13/24.

Yup, I think Jim H was pretty down after the way he drove on Sunday, especially after leading Saturday. I actually think it was the first time I ever saw him drive poorly. He actually almost spun in the same spot on his last 2 runs which cost him a better finish. He still finished with a trophy (5th) which may be the lowest he ever finished in a Tour event

Having said that, I drove worse than normal on saturday, was late on every turn and was so far behind that I could not improve my position on Sunday.

I actually thought the course was fun, but Tom is right, it was a momentum maintenance course which is definitely one of my many weak spots. Also, because the course was on several significant slopes, there were places where you could not see ahead because the course went over the horizon. That made it more difficult.

The good news is that the car is competitive after a winter rebuild. I was actually curious to see how it ran compared to Jim P's car and I think it compares well.

Jim F. was very fast on Sunday. We all thought he won, but was hit with a very late cone. Nice job none the less!

At some time during the weekend we all looked like this...

What I got to see of Miranda's runs looked really good.

ES stock was really exciting to watch. :cheer:
